I’m busy preparing for the next Anatomy Trains in Motion course. I’ve taught this course so many times yet each time I am still in awe of the detail and depth of this work.
Anatomy Trains in Motion is the first module in the FAMO Fascia Movement certification curriculum. It gives us an understanding of the integral anatomy of the myofascial meridians through resource orientated movement.
The second module is FAMO Focus it gives us an in-depth understanding of fascia, its architecture, behaviour, the 12 movement qualities we can deliberately train… and so much more.
Only then, after a thorough understanding of anatomy and fascia, we offer repertoire body reading and rebalancing courses.
If you are a Movement Teacher who just want more repertoire, or a good fascia release, or a fascia flow you can do with everyone, these courses are not for you.
If you want to intimately understand anatomy, the complexity of the fascia system, the integrated body, and movement that benefits the whole person, the individual in front of you, their whole body♾️mind, then look us up.
FAMO Fascia Movement was created and developed by Karin Gurtner of the art of motion academy. The .academy have been offering expertly currated movement courses for over 20 years. Our work is based on the latest available scientific research and we use universally accepted fascia movement language.
Our international team of Educators and Teachers cannot wait to welcome you to our movement!

Throwback to exactly 7 years ago when I was in South Africa to assist on one of my first Anatomy Trains in Motion courses.
Anatomy Trains in Motion is like the tip of Devil’s Peak peeking out above the clouds on the right of the photo, it offers a glimpse. It’s but one course in the FAMO Fascia movement curriculum. Doing the whole certification offers you the mountain, all of it, every nook and cranny, every rare flower and lifeform that exists on it.
If you’d like to see and experience the whole mountain, come explore with me!
I’m hosting the whole FAMO Fascia Movement certification in the United Kingdom and South Africa starting this year.

When it comes to back pain I speak from experience. Both personally and professionally.
I was the patient, I had the MRI scans, I went from one doctor (and Physio) to another, eventually to a Rheumatologist, who diagnosed me with ankylosing spondylosis in my early 30s. Their solution at the time was NSAIDs for the rest of my life. It felt devastating, scary and sad.
Lucky I’m stubborn, I didn’t accept that as the only solution. Over a period of probably 10 years, with the help of many others, I changed the narrative. The more I learned professionally, the better I could empower myself.
Today, 20 years later I am still free of back pain. I move better in my 50s than my 30s! I have a regular FAMO fascia-focused movement practice, this helps my body (and mind!) stay limber, it helps me maintain balance in my autonomic nervous system, essential for health. I try to keep my activities as diverse as possible, I prioritise sleep and a balanced diet.
All these things I mentioned in the slides I had to learn over time. I have lived them and know them to be true. I have experienced them through my clients.
There is of course no one size fit all. As a Movement Professional with 20 years experience, I understand the importance of a person centred approach. During a one to one session I meet you where you are, we explore your story, (all of it!), I listen to your goals and expectations, what limits you from doing the stuff you love?
Then we tailor a programme to get you back to the things you love.
Gradually, it’s a slow process that needs you to be part of it, doing the work, not passively receiving treatment, but the changes will be longer lasting than the ‘quick fix’ route you might have been offered. In my experience they almost never work.
Let’s change your lower back pain chapter together.

I am proud to be an NPCP accredited Pilates Teacher. This means that as a Pilates professional I have met internationally recognised standards, I have done comprehensive training and that I do continual education to keep learning to maintain my NPCP certification.
It’s wonderful that Pilates is growing in popularity but not all Pilates education is equal. I believe it has become even more important to become NPCP accredited for additional credibility in our industry.
Pilates teaching is a career built on skill, integrity, and professional standards.
NPCP’s NCCA-accredited certification reinforces credibility, supports public safety, and elevates the Pilates profession for teachers committed to long-term growth.

When I think of Pilates Teachers I feel grateful for, who have had an impact on my early teaching career, these two come up top.
Anneliese, middle, was the person I did Pilates with in preparation for that first matwork teacher training course many moons ago. She was kind and generous with her time, always supportive. She’s the one who told me ‘there is enough business for everyone’ when I started a couple of classes in the area. She’s been following my teaching career with as much awe as I am following her evolving teaching career. She was already a pretty incredible and experienced teacher yet she is retraining with Polestar to offer even more meaningful sessions to her clients. You are awesome!
Genine, on the right, is the teacher I did most of my supervising teaching hours with, she is the owner of Pilates Body studio where I taught for many years after qualifying. I’ve learned so much from her! She supports her teachers fiercely, ongoing education for everyone remains a priority, diversifying her business to keep growing with demand…but above all, I admire her ‘humaness’, deep care for people, always supportive, in business and the life stuff. I admire you Genine!
So, a couple of weeks ago when I taught them about myofascial connections and fascia-focused movements it seemed a bit of a ‘full circle moment’. As expected it was a lovely interactive, collaborative experience, learning from each other’s experiences and questions. I feel deeply humbled by the experience.
Who helped shape your early teaching career? Give them a sign of gratitude in the comments below.
