The Mtb X adventure continues.
On day 3 of the ride, we combined some of the best riding with a classic climp up this iconic mountain in the Great Karoo. It really was exceptional. The views!

The Mtb X adventure is not about just riding your bike along dirt roads. Riders get to ride in areas one would not be able to ride any other time. This includes animal/cattle tracks, jeep tracks, and occasionally a short bike push to link the journeys. I scouted and rode many potential routes, months in advance, with topographic maps and link up with several potential overnight stops.
On this last ride, there were several extras on offer, such as a talk by an archeologist with his private collection of fascinating karoo fosils and a descendent of the Khoi/San gave an insightful explanation of one of the sites in the Nieu Bethesda area.
Finally, the added highlight of this last Mtb X adventure was the beautiful ride to Compassberg, and then the climb to the top in pristine conditions. Pics to follow in the next post.

The last scouting before the Mtb X at the end of April. A small group of mtb adventurers get to explore a tiny but beautiful part of the Great Karoo. Every year, it's a different route, but always great vibes and amazing experieriences. Soon!

A true Legend gone, way too soon. Condolences to his very special family. Pete's successes on several levels and notably the many paddlers he coached to become world class champions. Huge respect. RIP Pete.
Peter Cole
The paddling community in South Africa is shocked and saddened by the sudden passing of Western Cape stalwart Peter Cole on Thursday.
Paddlesport South Africa will remember Peter for his tireless work, both on and off the water, and the massive contribution he made to canoeing, both in the Western Cape and the rest of South Africa.
Peter was a top-level competitor, highly respected paddling coach and administrator, as well as a prominent member of the canoeing and surfski business community.
Colin Simpkins, the Paddlesport South Africa Secretary General, said: “Very few individuals have had a greater impact on our sport, in as many roles as Peter had. From coach, to race organiser, to discipline administrator, his passion, dedication and impact have been immeasurable. The make up of members in our national teams for this year bear testament to the success of his coaching efforts. He had strong opinions on a number of issues, and very rarely left one in doubt as to what he thought about you. The gap that his passing leaves is massive. It is always difficult to find adequate words to comfort family members and friends when facing a loss of this magnitude. Just know that you are in our thoughts. Taken from us way too soon. Goodbye my friend.”
A statement from the Western Cape Canoe Union, said: “Pete’s enthusiasm and passion for our sport touched so many lives in our community. He will be remembered for his huge contribution to our sport in South Africa and beyond, and his absence leaves a void that will be felt by all. May we come together to honour Pete’s memory and support one another in love and unity.”
Our thoughts are with Alexa, Jarryd, Blake and family during this difficult time.

Quantum Step AR. So awesome to be able to get some of the legends of AR in the same place for quality "outside" time and even better to challenge them on exciting routes with challenging navigation at times. And the war stories afterward over a pizza and a cold one!
