'Monsters and Fossils’ is a new dance work presented by Kristina Johnstone and Thalia Laric in collaboration with lighting designer Andi Colombo. The work uses improvisation structures, somatic investigations, visual distortions and lighting transformations to explore the appearances and disappearances of the body. Through an excavation of the materiality of the body, physical imaginings are created that transcend both representation and identity. At the root of the work is the question – what does it mean to inhabit a body? How can we be more body, how can we be less body?
Performances are on 22 and 23 November at 8pm at the Theatre Arts Admin Collective.
After the performance there will be a curated discussion around research themes connected to the work. We encourage artists and audience to engage in discussion as a way of developing a community of research for new dance.
We'd like to grow the audience for experimental dance work, so please bring a friend if you can.

"In Opstanding" is composed by the acclaimed South African composer Adrian Kevin More.
London's "Opera" magazine wrote of In Opstanding: "The poems were set to music by the young South African composer Adrian More, whose sombre opera 'Anti-Laius (2015) had shown his maturity in handling orchestral colour and memorable vocal lines."
Underground Dance Theatre is honoured and privileged to be able to bring this profoundly moving new South African song cycle to the stage.
