What a Saturday of football at Rygate LFA ⚽🔥!

From the early morning junior fixtures right through to the senior matches under the LED lights after sunset, the field was packed to capacity with football lovers enjoying every moment.

The screams, cheers and encouragement from parents, coaches and families during the junior games created an unbelievable atmosphere and reminded us what community football is all about. The passion on display from our young stars was truly special to witness.

The senior fixtures then delivered some entertaining football with great goals, intense battles and quality performances as the action continued late into the evening.

Thank you to every player, coach, referee, parent, supporter and volunteer who continues to make Saturdays at Rygate LFA something special. Football is alive and thriving in our community.

This week’s round of fixtures will conclude tomorrow evening with Premier Division clashes set to light up the field once again under the lights.

RYGATE FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION – THE LFA OF CHOICE❤️⚽️

Today, the President of Rygate Football Association, Mr Abdul Tajoodien, hosted the esteemed Rygate Life Members at a special brunch aimed at reflecting on the current state of football and discussing the way forward.

In attendance were Mr Mia, Mr Edros, Mr Alexander, Mr Dirks, Mr Bailey, and Mr Samaai — a distinguished group representing nearly 300 years of combined experience in football development. Their presence highlighted the rich heritage, wisdom, and commitment that continue to define Rygate FA.

The gathering received updates on exciting developments within Rygate, including the Precinct Development Project, which is set to significantly benefit the Association.
Warm congratulations were extended to Mr Bailey on his return to leadership within Cape Town football. The meeting also noted his intention to make himself available for the position of National President once nominations officially open.

The Life Members expressed strong unity, resolving to stand firmly behind Mr Bailey’s candidature, pledging their full support and demonstrating the true spirit of camaraderie that has long been the hallmark of Rygate FA.

We wish Rygate FA, SAFA Cape Town, and Mr Bailey every success on the journey ahead.

🔥 WEEKEND FIXTURES ARE LOCKED IN! 🔥

Rygate LFA returns with a full lineup of action from 17–20 April. Expect big games and top talent across all divisions.

Rygate LFA is proud to officially kick off the new season tonight, with exciting fixtures lined up in the Under-10 Challenge Cup and Under-18 league.

The Under-10 Challenge Cup will feature not only our local talent but also invited clubs from neighbouring LFAs, including Manenberg LFA, Metropolitan LFA and Athlone LFA. This initiative reflects our commitment to development, unity and providing young players with valuable exposure to competitive football.

In addition, the Under-18 league gets underway this evening, with fixtures scheduled for Friday nights. This decision was taken with the best interests of our players at heart.

Rygate LFA President Abdul Tajoodien explained, “Most of our Under-18 players are in matric and attend extra classes on Saturday mornings. Playing on a Friday evening allows them the opportunity to meet their academic commitments while still participating in football.”

As Rygate LFA, we remain dedicated to creating an environment that prioritises both sporting excellence and the well-being of our players. We look forward to an exciting and successful season ahead.

Rygate LFA proudly congratulates Abongile Tom on his remarkable achievement of being selected as one of the match officials for the 2026 FIFA World Cup to be hosted in the USA and Mexico.

This prestigious appointment is a testament to his dedication, professionalism and excellence in refereeing at the highest level. As the Head of Department (HOD) of Referees at Rygate LFA, his leadership continues to inspire and uplift referees across our structures.

It is also a testament to the quality of referees that Rygate LFA continues to produce, with distinguished names such as former FIFA referee and assistant referee Naasif Julius and Emmanuel De Sani having paved the way.

We are incredibly proud to have one of our own representing not only our LFA, but South Africa on the world stage. Your journey is an inspiration to many young referees who aspire to follow in your footsteps.
