The deaths of women currently being investigated across Ekuruleni have caused fear, grief and anger throughout our communities.
We will not speculate about those investigations as SAPS has not confirmed that the cases are all connected. However, we cannot ignore the wider reality of gender based violence and the fear many women carry through everyday life.
For The Cage, speaking must be matched by responsibility for the environments we create.
Beginning with our next official activity, we will introduce the first measures of The Cage Player Welfare Process:
This includes:
โข Two named Player Welfare contacts for emergencies
โข A private route for raising concerns.
โข Clear response and escalation procedures
โข Arrival and departure check-ins at Cage activations
โข Opt-in travel coordination where reasonably practical
The process will be available to players, officials, staff and event contractors. It will build on the medical and security provision already in place at Cage events, alongside clear conduct expectations and protection from retaliation when someone raises a concern.
A single post cannot end GBV, but we can set standards, respond properly and build a culture in which safety and respect are shared responsibilities, not a burden placed on women alone.
Words must be matched by action- The Cage has spoken ๐
