🏆 A HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to FAKU PUMELELA! 🏆

FAKU PUMELELA is the undisputed champion of the 2026 DUNOON CHESS TOURNAMENT: The Opening, held at the Dunoon Public Library
He delivered a flawless performance, winning all 17 matches (17 points) by checkmates and resignations only , a perfect streak from start to finish.

🥈 2nd Place | BEST JUNIOR | BEST DUNOON FEMALE
Amara Chidela Titus finished with 14 points, securing 2nd place, claiming BEST JUNIOR, and successfully defending her BEST DUNOON FEMALE crown.
Her final-round victory which was a decisive timeout win against her chess coach, Sibusiso Dube was tournament defining.
Had she lost that last match, she would not have finished in the Top 4.
That single win, denied Asemahle Skeyi 2nd place and the BEST FEMALE crown AND prevented Inam Phakathi from breaking into the Top 4.

🥉 3rd Place
Asemahle Skeyi also finished on 14 points, narrowly settling for 3rd place due to a 0.5 Sonneborn–Berger point difference between her and Amara Chidela Titus, one of the tightest finishes of the tournament.

🏅 4th Place
Junior Rocolo secured 4th place with 13.5 points.
His hopes rested on Sibusiso Dube defeating three players ranked above him after Round 13, but those hopes were crushed when Chidela and Asemahle defeated Sibusiso and Inam Phakathi’s draw against Sibusiso ultimately sealed Junior Rocolo’s Top 4 finish.

👏 What a tournament. What a battle. What an opening to 2026.🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

TOP 10 (of 18) of DUNOON CHESS TOURNAMENT:The Opening
Standings after Round 13 of 17

Pumelela Faku sits comfortably in 1st place, maintaining a perfect 13-game winning streak.

The battle for 2nd place is heating up, with Asemahle Skeyi, Inam Phakathi, Chidela Amara Titus, Junior Rocolo, and Sibusiso Dube all in contention.

Junior Rocolo’s hopes for 2nd place hinge on Sibusiso Dube defeating the three players ranked above him, Asemahle Skeyi, Inam Phakathi, and Amara Chidela Titus while Junior wins all of his remaining games.

The pressure is firmly on Sibusiso Dube, as his remaining opponents with 10 points each are all hungry for 2nd place. If he manages to win all three of these crucial matchups, he MIGHT secure 3rd place, provided Junior Rocolo wins his remaining games and provided that his opponents with 10 points each lose every game they play.

Beyond the rankings, the Round-Robin format continues to deliver intense drama, laughter, and strong bonding among all 18 players. ♟️🔥🔥🔥

📅 Four games remain, to be played tomorrow (08 January 2026), which will finally decide who claims the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th spots.
