The announcement you’ve been waiting for. We’re back in 2027! It’s time to plan for your next mountain trail adventure. The Black Mountain Ultra will return in 2027 at a new time of the year, with a new race date.

You can look forward to all the incredible trails of the Swartberg, and the chance to immerse yourself in the epic wilderness of the Klein Karoo.

⛰️TERRAIN⛰️

When it comes to the terrain that makes up the epic trails of the Black Mountain Ultra, you can expect a good mix of technical single track, jeep track and rocky mountain paths for the longer distances, punctuated by big, sweeping views of the vast surrounding wilderness.

A true mountain trail experience no matter what distance it is you choose to tackle.

The route of the 73km ultra, starting at Bosch Luys Kloof, and descending into “Die HEL” - Gamkaskloof, offers runners unparalleled views of the ancient Swartberg, with a mix of jeep track and single track, and a chance to immerse yourself in all the wonder of the Klein Karoo.

GAMKASKLOOF NEEDS YOUR HELP

With the recent devastating floods that have hit the Western Cape causing severe damage to the Gamkaskloof (Die Hel) access road, creating dangerous conditions and complete loss of safe road access, a BackaBuddy campaign has been set up to raise funds for emergency repair work that is crucial to the repair of the road.

As an integral part of the Black Mountain Ultra race, in an area that we love and would like to help, we are appealing to anyone who might feel like they could support the campaign. Every contribution no matter how small will help protect access to this extraordinary part of South Africa.
