Competitors were greeted with near-perfect weather conditions for Round 3 of the KZN Super Sprint Series at Dezzi Raceway on Saturday, 23 May 2026, with calm conditions and sunshine making for one of the best race days at the circuit in quite some time.
In the M Projects Flowe Pac Historics class, an impressive entry list of 17 competitors was assembled, although sadly the meeting turned into one of the toughest in terms of attrition. A number of cars suffered failures during Friday practice, while others were sidelined during race day itself. Unfortunately, that is often the reality of historic racing, where even the best preparation cannot always prevent mechanical gremlins from appearing.
Qualifying saw Marc Konigkramer absolutely flying in his Mk2 Es**rt, setting a very quick pace to secure pole position. He was closely followed by Reg Sutton also in a Mk2 Es**rt , while Greg Steen in his Mk1 Es**rt and Rory Nossiter in his Mini Clubman completed the first two rows of the grid. Behind them were Rob Prece in his pre-90s Golf and Dave Armstrong in his E30 BMW.
For those who made it to the grid, the racing was hard and competitive throughout the day. Interestingly, all three races produced exactly the same top three finishers, with Marc Konigkramer taking victory ahead of Reg Sutton in second and Rory Nossiter in third in every race.
There was also plenty of entertaining action further down the field, particularly the close battles between Rob Priest and Dave Armstrong, after the leading trio managed to break away and establish a gap at the front.
With Round 3 now complete, competitors and teams look forward to a well-earned six-week break before preparations begin for Round 4, scheduled for 4 July 2026 at Dezzi Raceway. We hope to see another strong field of competitors as well as great spectator support for what promises to be another exciting day of racing.
