Our AR Gaiters P Cloth at Strandloper Project Research Expedition. For long days out, a hygienic, reusable alternative to toilet paper, tissues or wet wipes is essential for when you need to p*e.

P Cloths can be clipped to the back of a backpack, they dry in the sun (dry p*e doesn't smell) and they can be reused over and over. The printed waterproof fabric on the outside keeps the absorbent, anti-microbial h**p fabric dry on the inside.

This year's Strandloper Project Research Expedition is well underway with the team starting Day 3 of 10 today.
The Strandloper team surveys plastic and marine waste along the Garden Route coastline, logging their observations for later analysis.

The team members wear AR Gaiters to keep the sand out of their shoes, a absolute necessity for foot health and comfort when they're on their feet for 8 to 12 hours each day.

The 2026 Strandloper Project Expedition is underway. This year, team is covering a section of the Garden Route coast from Wilderness to Nature's Valley over 10 days. Spending their days on the beach recording observations of plastic and marine waste, they wear AR Gaiters to keep the sand put of their shoes.

We love it when you re-visit us to buy new AR Gaiters, a different AR Gaiters model or gifts for friends.

An order came through over the weekend from Sue for a pair of Hiking AR Gaiters. She bought a pair of Transition AR Gaiters a bit more than a year ago (and she also has gaiters from before these too).

We asked Sue how her Transition AR Gaiters were going and whether her new order was a replacement for these or for someone else. Her reply made our day.

"My previous ones are still great," she wrote. "I need these for walking in the bush as the ones I had are now really old."

"My gaiters sure = great adventures."

Spotted! Georgia Grobler from Team Terra Mater wearing her Adventure AR Gaiters at the Adventure Racing World Championship that is currently underway on the French island of Corsica in the Mediterranean.

The AR World Championship started at 6am on Thursday morning and team are now going into night 2 of this non-stop, 600km, multi-discipline event. The front teams are expected to take five days to complete the course.

Three South African teams are racing. There is live GPS tracking and lots of reels, photographs and news coming out from the event.

If a stream or river is too wide to jump across, you have to weigh up getting your shoes wet vs the time spent to take off socks and shoes, risk of injury going through barefoot, and then trying to get your feet sand-free and dry on the other side to put your socks and shoes on again.

Stream and river crossings are less complicated when you wear AR Gaiters. Although your shoes will get wet, which isn't a problem if they are already wet from rain or dew, you can walk through with confidence knowing that your AR Gaiters will keep gravel and sand out of your shoes. Wetness will drain and dry; and being grit free will keep your feet happy and comfortable.

This past weekend, the Karoo Stone Folk Trail group experienced pouring rain on the second day of this three-day, guided hike. They missed out on hiking through the fossil canyon, which was in full flood, but got to see new waterfalls cascading down ancient channels. This year has been an incredible year of rain in the Karoo. The veld is emerald green. Streams are flowing, and pans and dams are full.

The Karoo Stone Folk Trail is hosted from April to October each year with one set date each month (other group bookings by arrangement). This is a 3-day, 4-night slackpacking trail with overnight stays on farms with hearty breakfasts, a daily lunch pack, and a wholesome evening meal.

This hike is guided by Anthony and Mark who enrich your experience with storied about the geological features, fossils, and interesting plants, animals, insects and birds of the area.

AR Gaiters are at home in this environment to keep sand, grit, stones and grass seeds out of socks and shoes. With hiking stages of 18km and 6-8hrs each day, reducing the risk of blisters and having happy, healthy feet keeps your focus on the scenery and experience.

The fabrics that we use for our various AR Gaiters models are long-lasting and they stand up to punishment. We've found a fabric that could prove useful... While the fabric has potential, we're curious about how hard wearing it will be. AR Gaiters are items that can be worn daily so it is important to us that the fabric has longevity.

Lisa will be wearing these daily in hot, cold, wet and dry conditions to test how the fabric fares over time and wear.

From the high vegetated dunes in Goukamma Nature Reserve near Sedgefield, you look down on the unique Groenvlei freshwater lake. In the distance, the Outeniqua Mountains stand tall. The various trails here are great for hiking, trail running and just being.

In this photo, Jonathan is hiking with his Strandloper Project AR Gaiters. He has been on the expedition team for many years and will again be collecting data on this year's expedition. With thanks to Mandy, also a long-standing member of the expedition team, for this beautiful photo.
