The WITS Basketball Club is one of the best basketball clubs in the country and open to students studying at University of the Witwatersrand. The men's team (WITS Bucks) having won USSA National Championship status in 2016, 2017 and 2021, as well as the Inaugural Varsity Basketball Championship in 2018. The women’s team (WITS Lady Bucks) winning USSA as well, in 2014 and 2017 respectively. Practic
ing most days of the week at Hall 29, West Campus, WITS University - the WITS Bucks, WITS Lady Bucks, WITS Young Bucks, WITS Buck Ladies and WITS Academy, train hard to win and host some of the biggest events ie the Annual WITS Ashraf Lodewyk Basketball Tournament and the Annual WITS Lady Bucks Basketball Tournament. The Club also assists with hosting other basketball related events such as the Gauteng University Basketball League (GUBL), Inner City Super League (ICSL) and Friday Night Lights (FNL). You can also join our internal basketball league (IBL) and play against the Bucks, Res teams and other clubs that participate. Being one of the most successful sporting code at WITS (pursuant to winning countless Club of the Year and Sports Women/Men of the Year Awards), the Club takes basketball very seriously and always encourages new players to come try out. So if you are feeling like you want to watch some real sport action, get ridiculously fit, try something new or get more immersed in the WITS sporting culture, then come down to the courts!!
