"It's only an easy run, I don't need to take anything with me.",
"I will just have a protein shake after my bike, I am trying to lose weight",
"I am going to restrict myself during these next set of training sessions, I need to get to race weight."
These are things I often here from athletes who are guided by misinformed sources. Ultimately, this is to the detriment of not only their performance but their long term success in sport. As Mariella Sawyer, an accomplished dietician, says, an athlete must fuel for performance and that means both in training and on race day.

Congratulations to all my athletes on a superb weekend of racing. I am thrilled with every individual’s performance. I know first hand the dedication and sacrifices that have been made in order to achieve these goals and therefore, they all should be incredibly proud of their successes!
