The Chessval Online Battle Tournament has been rescheduled to 30 August 2026, and registration is still open!

A significant number of our registered players informed us that they would not be available on the original tournament date. Rather than proceed without them, we believe every registered player deserves a fair opportunity to participate.

We've also extended the registration period to welcome more teams and players from across South Africa, making the tournament bigger, stronger, more competitive, and more rewarding for everyone.

What an incredible journey it has been! After weeks of exciting battles, Falcons have emerged as our Battle Tournament Champions 🥇, while Alpha Force fought with determination to secure 2nd Place 🥈.

We also recognize the efforts of Titans, M-Power, and Golden Lions. Although they were eliminated from the tournament, they displayed courage, determination, and sportsmanship throughout the competition. Every great champion has faced setbacks, and we look forward to seeing them come back stronger in our next event.

📢 Tournament Postponement Notice

Dear players,

We have decided to reschedule our online battle tournament, which was originally set to begin on 28 June 2026. The tournament will now start on 5 July 2026.

This decision was made because several over-the-board tournaments are taking place during the original dates, which may prevent some of our players from participating. Since this is a battle tournament, a strong turnout is essential to make the competition exciting, competitive, and enjoyable for everyone.

By moving the tournament to 5 July 2026, we hope to give more players the opportunity to take part and ensure the best possible tournament experience for all.

Get ready for the return of one of ChessVal's most exciting formats — the Battle Tournament! 🔥

This unique event will feature 8 to 10 teams competing for glory, prizes, and bragging rights. Unlike traditional individual tournaments, this format is built around teamwork. 🤝

Each team will be carefully balanced with strong players, intermediate players, and beginners. This means beginners and intermediate players won't have to face stronger opponents alone. Instead, they will be supported by teammates, learn from stronger players, and contribute valuable points towards their team's success. Every player matters, and every result counts. 💪♟️

To make the tournament even more rewarding, we have increased the entry fee from R40 to R80. This allows us to create a bigger prize pool and reward the Top 3 Teams. 🥇🥈🥉 A player who pays R80 and finishes as part of a winning team could potentially receive rewards worth R200 or more. 💰📈

🌍 Open to everyone! You do not need to be a ChessVal member to participate. External players are welcome to join and become part of a team.

🏆MEET THE FIRST BLACK GRANDMASTER IN CHESS ♟️

This is Maurice Ashley during his early chess career in the 1990s, before he became a Grandmaster.
Back then, he was not yet famous. He was still grinding through tournaments in New York, studying games, and playing in local chess clubs in Brooklyn. He didn’t have fame, money, or big support — just pure dedication to improving every day.

At that time, many people did not expect him to reach the highest level of chess. But he kept working, analyzing positions, and competing against stronger players.
Years later, all that hard work paid off when he became the first Black Grandmaster in chess history in 1999.
