Many overhead cranes in service across Southern Africa were installed decades ago. The structural steel may still be sound, but ageing electrical systems, obsolete controls, worn drive components, and outdated safety features can compromise performance, increase maintenance costs, and create compliance risk. RGM Cranes provides comprehensive crane modernisation services that allow facilities to upgrade controls, replace hoist mechanisms, install variable speed drives, and bring electrical panels up to current standards, without the cost and disruption of full crane replacement. Each project is assessed and engineered individually, with upgrades specified to extend service life and improve operational reliability.

Modernising an existing crane is one of the most cost-effective investments a facility can make. RGM Cranes has the engineering capability and the installation experience to bring older equipment back to current standard.

RGM Cranes started in 1988 as a small maintenance business in Boksburg. Over the next 38 years, we've grown from that workshop into Africa's largest manufacturer of overhead cranes, with a full range of lifting solutions, a nationwide service team, and an ex-stock inventory of over R50 million in crane parts available for rapid dispatch. Industries across Southern Africa have trusted us with their most critical lifting infrastructure, and that trust has been earned one reliable delivery at a time.

Every crane we manufacture and every job we complete carries the same commitment that started it all: lifting solutions that are dependable, safe, and built to last in Africa's most demanding environments.

Cranes are only as good as what holds them up. At RGM Cranes, structural work is part of what we do, not an afterthought. We design foundations tailored to crane loads, soil conditions and operational requirements. We fabricate gantry beams to exact specifications for smooth crane travel and reduced wear. And we install structural steel columns and supports that meet all relevant engineering standards while integrating seamlessly with existing infrastructure.

Strength, stability and long-term reliability. That's what the structure underneath every RGM crane is built for.

RGM Cranes' Cape Town branch supplied Iconicco Holdings (Pty) Ltd in Wellington, Western Cape, with three overhead cranes: two dual hoist single girder cranes, each rated at 5 ton (2 x 2.5 ton) with 19 metre spans, and a single-girder 5 ton crane with a 6.5 metre span. The dual hoist cranes were specified to improve handling of long sections of steel, beams and plates and to support top-and-tail lifting for turning components such as cylinders.

These new cranes form part of the expansion of Iconicco's existing premises, which added 800 square metres of additional floor space. Iconicco is a turnkey mechanical and engineering services provider, supplying locally manufactured products into South Africa's mining sector and international markets.

A fourth crane is currently in production as part of this project. Another example of how our team delivers fit-for-purpose lifting solutions tailored to our customers' operations.

We are excited to announce the appointment of Emel Fleischmann to Group Managing Director. Having joined RGM Cranes in April 2013, Emel brings over 20 years of collective industry experience, having worked his way up through sales, after-sales service and the workshop before moving into management and, most recently, serving as Commercial Manager. That hands-on path across every part of the business has given him a rare mix of technical and engineering know-how alongside his commercial expertise.

His leadership and depth of experience have been instrumental to our growth, and we're excited to see that expertise now guide the company at a group level.

This appointment reflects our continued investment in strong leadership to support our clients and drive the business forward.

When a customer in South Yorkshire faced the unexpected condemnation of their overhead crane, getting production back up and running quickly was the priority. RGM Cranes UK supplied a 10 ton double girder crane with a 15 metre span to replace the existing unit. From receipt of order through to installation, testing, commissioning and load testing, the entire project was completed in around two weeks, allowing our customer to resume normal operations with minimal impact.

A fast turnaround on a critical piece of lifting equipment is exactly the kind of challenge our team is built for.

A 20-ton double girder overhead crane has been manufactured at our Benoni facility and will be shipped to KwaZulu-Natal for installation and commissioning. The crane has been purpose-built for the assembly, repair, and installation of components on Liebherr mobile cranes, with a particular focus on the larger mobile crane models providing a dedicated lifting and positioning solution for maintenance, refurbishment, and assembly activities where precision and capacity are critical.

This crane forms part of Liebherr's significant expansion in KwaZulu-Natal, anchored by a major investment in a new Competence and Distribution Centre in Durban. The facility will include the Liebherr Technology Campus, a hub for innovation, professional training, and equipment lifecycle support across the region.

Another example of how our team delivers fit-for-purpose lifting solutions that support world-class operations.
