Chiefs appoint Fernando da Cruz as head coach

Kaizer Chiefs are pleased to announce the appointment of Fernando da Cruz as Head Coach. He has signed a two-year contract with a one-year option, effective 1 July 2026.

Born in France, Da Cruz comes highly qualified with a UEFA Pro Licence, the highest coaching certification in football.
He worked briefly with Chiefs during pre-season two years ago before joining the Moroccan Football Federation, where he served as Technical Director until the end of June. He will officially take charge of Amakhosi at the beginning of July.

Khalil Ben Youssef has hits back on accusations about favoured Glody Lilepo, not being dropped when he’s off form, playing the most games.

"I don’t know where these accusations come from, but there were many games we substituted him, took Lilepo out. But football is stats, it’s not about who you like or don’t like. Unfortunately, in South
Africa, people only think about players emotionally"

"So, if I like Brandon Petersen, is he good or not good? He still needs to play. The critics don’t know what’s happening in training sessions; they know nothing about the performances in training or the physical levels of players. Medical situations, they don’t know."

"If we had to play a game every day, they would want the player they like to play every game. For Lilepo, there is stats, number of goals scored, assists made, chances created. He’s one of the best players in the team, and he was one of the
most impactful players in the team."

or give an assist. Him and Shabalala are crucial to always play for Chiefs. Even when they are not performing well, you expect them to do something for the team."

" Not like others, when they are not performing well or good enough in training, you can’t expect them to do something in the game. But Lilepo and Shabalala, in moments, they can score or give an assist."said Ex-coach Khalil Ben Youssef.

🎯🥅Wandile Duba has the mentality of a world-class player. The boy plays to win; for him, everything is for the badge. This is the type of player I would love to see playing week in and week out because he always gives his all on the field.

He is not friendly to defenders—three points are all that matters to him. I don’t see many young players in the league with the same mentality as this boy.
