🎯 WHACKY WEDNESDAY

🀯 THE BOWL THAT REFUSED TO FALL!

Imagine you're playing in a World Singles match. The score is 24–24. The pressure is on, and every bowl matters.

That's exactly where English bowls champion Tony Allcock found himself in Adelaide in 1996.

His bowl rolled right to the edge of the ditch, wobbled on the brink and somehow stayed balanced directly above the jack! 😱

Then his opponent, Noel Kennedy, drove straight at it.

And Tony's bowl STILL stayed put! πŸ‘€

Allcock went on to retain his World Singles title. His account of the moment appeared in Bowls International.

Sometimes, the difference between winning and losing really does come down to a bowl that refuses to fall!

🎯 BE HONEST: Have you ever had a bowl balance in a seemingly impossible position β€” or watched one do something that made absolutely no sense?

Tell us your most unbelievable bowls moment in the comments! πŸ˜‚πŸ‘‡

TRIVIA TUESDAY 🎯 WHAT WAS THE JACK ONCE CALLED?
In Shakespeare's time, the little target ball in bowls was sometimes known by a rather unexpected name. What was it?

A) The Duchess
B) The Mistress
C) The Queen
D) The Kitty

Lock in your answer before you Google it! πŸ‘€
Drop A, B, C or D in the comments. Answer revealed later!

ANSWER: THE ANSWER IS B - THE MISTRESS! πŸ‘€
Believe it or not, historical references to bowls show that the jack was sometimes called the mistress during Tudor and Elizabethan times.
William Shakespeare even referenced the expression β€œkiss the mistress” in Troilus and Cressida - referring to a bowl reaching the target ball.
He also wrote about a player who had β€œkissed the jack” in Cymbeline.
So, the next time your bowl finishes right beside the jack, you can tell your opponent you've given the mistress a kiss! πŸ˜‚πŸŽ―

Our Monday Motivation goes our to the Class of 2026!

YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE PERFECT. JUST DO YOUR BEST.

Tomorrow, thousands of you will begin your final exams, and all of us at Roosevelt Park Bowling Club want to wish the Class of 2026 the very best! πŸ’™πŸ’›

In bowls, not every delivery lands exactly where you hoped it would. Sometimes you get it spot on; sometimes you don't. But what matters is that you step onto the mat, focus on the shot and give it your best.

Exams are much the same.

Take a breath. Read each question carefully. Trust what you've learnt and give yourself the time to do the best you can.

Don't put pressure on yourself to be perfect. You don't need to know every answer or get every question right. Just give it your best effort, one question at a time.

Remember, your best is enough to be proud of. ❀️

To the Class of 2026, we're wishing you calm minds, confidence and every success in the weeks ahead.

You've put in the work. Now go out there and do your best!

From all of us at Roosevelt Park Bowling Club, we're rooting for you! πŸŽ―πŸ“šπŸ’™πŸ’›

🀯 WHACKY WEDNESDAY: ONE BOWL. SEVEN SHOTS.
You read that correctly.

At the 1980 World Bowls Championships in Melbourne, Scotland were trailing the USA by seven shots going into the final end.
With the last bowl of the match, Scotland's Willie McQueen was given an almost ridiculous task: hit an opposing bowl at an angle, split two others and hope his own bowl followed through.

He did it! The bowls scattered like snooker balls…

And when everything stopped: SEVEN SCOTTISH BOWLS WERE COUNTING. 🀯

A seven-shot end. With the last bowl of the match. Even bowls legend Tony Allcock described it as one of the most memorable shots he'd ever witnessed.

πŸ‘‡ Could you have played that shot?
Or would you have looked at the head and thought:
β€œJa… that's a lost end.” πŸ˜‚
