Coach Thea has a huge passion for swimming and, especially working with children. She has a soft touch with her swimmers and genuinely cares deeply for each and every one of them. She has a big heart and a special way of making little swimmers feel comfortable, supported and confident in the water.

At Aqua Fast Swim School, Coach Thea coaches our Learn to Swim squads, helping swimmers develop their skills and confidence. She has also started coaching our competitive swimmers at Swartland Aquatics, taking the next step in her coaching journey.

🏊‍♀️ 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗱𝗶𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗼𝗹𝘃𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝘀𝘄𝗶𝗺𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴?

The Steyns pulled me into swimming when my boy was around 3 years old, and from there it just grew. Swimming has been a huge part of my life ever since. I started getting more involved and eventually found my passion for coaching — helping children learn, grow in confidence and giving them a skill they can carry with them through life.

🏊‍♀️ 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗮𝘃𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗸𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵?

Mmm… if I have to choose — Breaststroke! 🐸

😂 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝘀𝘄𝗶𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝘀𝗮𝗶𝗱 𝗼𝗿 𝗱𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗱𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗻?

I had a little swimmer who absolutely loved talking during lessons (just like me 🙈)! So, we made a deal that we would only chat when we reached the side of the pool after completing a lap.

One day, he arrived at the other side looking very tired and bright red. When I asked him what happened, he said:

‘But Coach, I didn’t know if I was allowed to breathe!’ 😂

💙 𝗜𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗽𝗶𝗲𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗮𝗱𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗮 𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗹𝗲 𝘀𝘄𝗶𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝘀𝘄𝗶𝗺𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗷𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘆, 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗶𝘁 𝗯𝗲?

Don’t be scared to make mistakes — that’s how we learn! Take it one little step at a time. Trust yourself and trust your coach, and most importantly, have FUN.

You don’t have to be the best swimmer on your first day; you just have to be BRAVE enough to try

The people! I love being surrounded by people who are passionate about swimming and genuinely care about the swimmers.

It’s so rewarding to be part of a team where we can learn from one another, support each other and celebrate every little achievement — whether it’s a first swim, a new skill or just any happy moment.

𝗠𝗘𝗘𝗧 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗧𝗘𝗔𝗠 — 𝗖𝗢𝗔𝗖𝗛 𝗝𝗘𝗦𝗦𝗜𝗞𝗔

Coach Jessika coaches our Learn to Swim squads at Aqua Fast Swim School, helping swimmers develop the skills and confidence they need to eventually transition into competitive swimming.

She's also the Head Coach of Swartland Aquatics, where our swimmers who are ready to take the next step into competitive swimming continue their journey.

Jessika is incredibly passionate about swimming and has a clear vision for where she wants swimmers to go. She has a knack for seeing potential a million miles away, long before the swimmer or parent sees it themselves.

My dad, Coach Riaan, made me water safe at an early age in our pop-up swimming pool at home. I started Learn to Swim in Malmesbury at the age of 5.

❤️ 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴?

Seeing swimmers develop from a scared, unsure kid into someone who is confident in themselves, their abilities and believes in themselves.

Not only in swimming, but in life.

Every swimmer develops in their own time and at their own speed. Seeing each swimmer reach their own potential, in their own time, is the main goal and it makes me incredibly happy.

🏆 𝗗𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗯𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗿 𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸?

Well, talent can definitely take you somewhere. But I've seen too many swimmers with so much talent, but not the right mentality to understand how much hard work it takes to improve and reach their full potential.

Unfortunately, in swimming, there are no shortcuts.Talent alone won't take you very far. Hard work makes the world go around.

But talent combined with hard work...
That's the recipe for success. 🏊‍♀️🏆

Some might know her as Sensei Jeanne, but to us, she is Tannie Jeanne 🩵

She knows every swimmer by name, even though she's not the one coaching them.

And if you know someone who does admin really well… think again! We have the very best.

Jeanne is the person behind the scenes making sure the admin, finances and all the little details that keep Aqua Fast running smoothly are taken care of. 📋💰
