IN-SERVICE TRAINING: CRITICAL CARE UPDATE PROGRAM
The high-acuity environment is constantly changing and is a dynamic and fluid area requiring on-going education and training.
Our program incorporates core clinical concepts that would enhance the experience of working in the ICU / high care for the nurse and will also ensure that with a better understanding of the “why” that the patient receives a higher quality of care when they are most vulnerable.
These core concepts include:
• Arterial blood gas analysis
• Haemodynamic monitoring
• 12 Lead ECG interpretation
• Mechanical ventilation
• Adult CXR interpretation
Each individual concept is presented in an interactive, lecture-type format over an 8 hour period i.e. the entire program is presented over 5 days. Each component of the Training Program has a post-presentation evaluation which each delegate is required to complete in order to assess the efficacy of learning. The Training Program may be presented as a block in one week or may, alternatively, be spread over a 5 week period – the dictates of the unit and facility are taken into consideration.
In order to consolidate theoretical learning, we include a component of clinical facilitation where these core concepts are incorporated and made sense of in the clinical environment. In many respects this clarifies the “why” and reinforces theoretical learning.
Each delegate receives the following:
• Lecture material
• Required stationery
• A minimum of 3 hours 1:1 bedside clinical facilitation
• A certificate of completion
• Relevant summary cards (for ease of reference)
• CPD points are allocated, if required
We offer customization in the development of our training programs to meet the specific needs of the individual unit and / or facility.
On completion of the training program, we offer a follow-up assessment and evaluation of the training presented, the results of which are incorporated in a comprehensive training report providing the employer with an indication of the return of investment in the proposed training program.
If you are interested in having us do a Needs Analysis for your facility or require any further information, please do not hesitate to contact me.
