Amy’s family and friends are deeply committed to honoring her final wishes by supporting Amy’s projects & continuing her legacy of “Pay It Forward,” especially to those less fortunate.🩷 Amy Bell was known as a tenacious horsewoman, a seasoned traveler, an accomplished hunter, a dedicated philanthropist, and a “best friend” to many. She loved horses, dogs, her family and friends, and she loved the Lord. She lived life with no handlebars, and she loved everyone to the ends of the earth. Her sudden death on May 16, 2014 left a void in the lives of her family and friends worldwide. This page is dedicated to the work that she began many years ago.

The need for food was impossible to miss, and it stayed with our team.

Alongside two water well visits in Uganda, families received maize flour and beans through our Food Aid initiative.

Helping children and families have access to something as basic as food is another way we continue to Pay It Forward. 💙

This is where the Amy Bell Charities water well ministry began. 🩷

Today, our team visited Amy’s Well in Pallisa District, Uganda, the first water well Amy Bell Charities became involved with and a place that holds a very special part of Amy’s legacy. 🇺🇬💧

More than a decade after the well was dedicated in her memory, our team stood beside it as families came to collect water and children gathered around them, smiling, waving and carrying their water cans home.

For Amy, caring for children, especially those in need, was deeply personal. To stand here today, see her name alongside the words “Pay It Forward,” and see this well still serving the community was something our team will always remember.

Amy’s Well was the first. And more than a decade later, the story continues with every generation it serves. 💧

Time in the field with two of our associates in Zambia. 🇿🇲

From distributing WaSPP (Washable Sanitary Pad Project) kits alongside the Nyimba Foundation, to spending the rest of the day with ChildFund Zambia, visiting projects in the Chongwe district and spending time with the people behind them.

We began at Matipula Primary School, where girls received washable sanitary pad kits to help them manage their periods with dignity and stay in school.

The Amy Bell Charities team also visited the WaSPP workshop in Lusaka, where the washable sanitary pad kits are made, and surprised the tailors with new branded uniforms. 💙

At Chainda Youth Resource Centre, we spent time with young people in the YES (Youth Empowerment and Support) Program, hearing what the program means to them and their hopes for using the skills they are learning. We saw some of that training firsthand too, from building and bricklaying to agriculture. 🧱🪴

Then came one of the warmest welcomes of the day. The women in the Women & Caregivers Empowerment Program welcomed us with singing and dancing before sitting down with us to share their stories. 🐓

We heard about their chicken projects and learned how their village banking system works. We learned about their chicken projects and village banking, and heard firsthand what these opportunities have meant: greater confidence, the ability to earn and save, support their families and work toward goals of their own.

We also returned to a very special place in the Amy Bell Charities story, Nyashishi School, and spent time with Emmanuel and his family. Amy Bell sponsored Emmanuel as a child, and the connection with him, his family and his community has remained very special to Amy Bell Charities. 💙

Days in the field allow us to listen, learn and see firsthand what these projects mean to the children and people they support. A special time in Zambia continuing Amy Bell’s heart for children and her Pay It Forward spirit. 🩷

Today was a good day to dance. 💧🇿🇲

In Mfuwe, Zambia, Johan van der Watt and Darren Simpkins had the very special opportunity to witness a borehole being drilled and the moment everyone had been waiting for: water coming out.

The excitement from the community said it all. Smiles, cheers and plenty of dancing as they watched water rise from the ground.

Fresh water closer to home can mean shorter distances to collect it, less physical effort, more time for families and most important, clean water!

For Johan and Darren, getting to witness that first water alongside the community made this a very special visit to Mfuwe. 💙

Based in Fort Worth, Texas, with their work centred in Lusaka, Zambia, Arise Africa shares a commitment that is close to our hearts: creating meaningful opportunities for children and helping them build brighter futures.

Sometimes paying it forward begins with seeing a need and finding a way to help. 💙

We’re grateful to Battleground Chapter of SCI for carrying the Bell Family Blue Bag Program beyond this visit to South Africa. 🇿🇦

What began with their first Blue Bag has now led to plans for continued support of this local community, exactly the kind of ripple effect we love to see.
