When you cheer, they grow. When you coach, they crumble.

As parents, it’s natural to want to help, guide, and fix. We see our kids out there — on the mats, on the field, on the stage — and every instinct tells us to jump in and coach them through it.

But here’s the truth: they already have a coach. What they need most in that moment isn’t more instructions, it’s the comfort of knowing you’re there in their corner, proud of them no matter what happens.

Pressure can shrink a child’s confidence, but encouragement makes it soar. When you step back from coaching and step fully into supporting, you give them the courage to try, the resilience to fail, and the belief to keep going. That’s the role only a parent can fill — and it’s the one they’ll remember forever.

This afternoon after training, 85 IOGKF members visited the newly constructed South Shaolin temple. This temple is not yet open to the public, but IOGKF was granted special permission to enter this truly unique place. Tomorrow IOGKF and the Fuzhou Wushu Association will have an exchange demonstration.

I can’t count how many times adults have said to me, “I wish my parents never let me quit martial arts.” They remember the confidence and discipline it gave them, but also the regret of stopping too soon. It’s one of the most common conversations I have when people see our Absolute uniform.

The truth is, when children struggle, it’s natural for them to want to give up. That’s exactly when they need a little guidance and encouragement to keep going. By helping them push through, they not only grow in skill but also build resilience, confidence, and perseverance—qualities that will serve them for the rest of their lives. 💚🥋
