Level III, SA HG Champs match — Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth), Eastern Cape — Day 2

This was another incredibly hot and dusty day on the range. Since I was slightly behind on the standings, I needed to have a solid day and fight my way back higher on the leaderboard (which I fortunately managed to do).

Although there's (always) work to be done, but I was fairly happy with my 10th place overall in the PO Division, my 2nd place (silver medal) in the PO Senior category and our 1st place (gold medal) in the PO Senior provincial team competition with my NG shooting mates.

Huge thanks to my shooting friends and colleagues in the PO Super Squad for your support, encouragement, chats and laughter over this 2 day match. Thanks also to the RM, MD, match management and ROs for their hard work at this match.

My sincere thanks, as always, must also go to my sponsors who make all of this possible:

PS. Thanks also to JP and Chantelle Rossouw (EngineRoom) for their assistance with video editing.

Level III, SA HG Champs match — Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth), Eastern Cape — Day 1

This was a rather technical and tricky match, where precise stage planning, selecting the correct shooting positions and accuracy were all tested to the full.

Although I made a few errors on Day 1, I was pleased with my 10th place overall in the PO Division and my 2nd place (silver medal) in the PO Senior category. Congrats also to my fellow NGPSA PO Senior team mates for helping to secure our first place finish (gold medal) in the provincial team competition.

As always, it was great to be shooting with my friends and colleagues in the PO Super Squad at this Nationals and huge thanks to each of you for your support, encouragement, chats and laughter over this 2 day match. Thanks also to the RM, MD, match management and ROs for their hard work at this match.

My sincere thanks, as always, must also go to my sponsors who make all of this possible:

Eeufees Club Shoot (3rd October 2026) — This was my last training match and practice session before the Level III, SA Handgun Champs match.

It was a good match which tested a variety of skills, as well as requiring good visual patience on certain targets. Am happy to report that I managed to win the HG part of the match overall and also took stage wins in 4 of the 5 stages in the PO Division.

Wishing safe travels and the best of luck to all of the competitors travelling to and taking part in the SA Champs match this weekend in Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth), Eastern Cape. I look forward to seeing all of my shooting friends and colleagues from around the country over the weekend.

My sincere thanks, as always, to my sponsors who make all of this possible:

Metal Mayhem 2026 — what a blast!! Further to my previous video, here are a few PCC videos from this match (shot on Sun, 27/09), where shot calling and good shooting fundamentals were essential.

I was fairly pleased with my performance but still have some polishing and refinement to do before the SA Champs PCC Nationals in 4 weeks’ time. That said, I was fairly happy with my performance in the match (including a 2nd, a 3rd, two 4th, a 5th & a 6th place on different stages in the match), my 4th place overall in PCC Optics and my 1st place in PCC Optics Senior… not to mention our PCC Optic team win in the corporate team competition (for the “Boerewors Mafia” team).

Huge thanks to Billy, Anco, the other organisers and match officials for putting on such a great match.

Well done also to all of the donors for their MASSIVE contributions and donations of pet food, financial and other support for Wet Nose Animal Rescue Centre (https://www.wetnose.co.za/). It seems that this event has raised around 2 tons of pet food donations for this charity… wow, just wow!!

Metal Mayhem 2026 — what a blast!! Although it’s been a few years since I last participated in this match, this year’s edition was totally epic!

Here are a few HG videos from this match (shot on Sat, 26/09), where shot calling and good shooting fundamentals were essential.

I was fairly pleased with my performance but still have some polishing and refinement to do before the SA Champs HG Nationals in 2 weeks’ time. That said, I was fairly happy with my stage win (on Stage 3 - 40m plates), two 3rd place finishes on stages, my 5th place overall in PO and my 1st place in PO Senior.

Huge thanks to Billy, Anco, the other organisers and match officials for putting on such a great match.

Well done also to all of the donors for their MASSIVE contributions and donations of pet food, financial and other support for Wet Nose Animal Rescue Centre (http://www.wetnose.co.za). It seems that this event has raised around 2 tons of pet food donations for this charity… wow, just wow!!

I also wanted to recognise and thank my sponsors who make all of this possible:

Stage planning and ex*****on of your stage plan are critical!

Thought that this side-by-side analysis of me shooting the same stage (Stage 1) at the WSC club shoot might be of interest (FYI, my 1st attempt = left hand video, my 2nd attempt = right hand video).

When you watch the videos, you will see that (a) I had slightly different target sequences at the second shooting position; and (b) I slightly overstepped my mark for shooting through the window aperture, both of which resulted in wasted time (with my 1st attempt). These small errors cost me additional time on my 1st attempt (being a 3.30 sec time difference between attempts) and resulted in a lower hit factor (being a 0.42 HF difference).

Details:
1st attempt: 19:02 secs /// 23A, 3C /// HF 6.51 /// 94%
2nd attempt: 15:72 secs /// 22A, 3C, 1M /// HF 6.93 /// 100%

Further to my previous post, here are a few HG videos from the NGPSA HG & PCC provincial league 9 from Sunday (13/09).

This was a different match with much shorter stages and lower round counts. Stage planning and ex*****on were paramount!

I had a fairly good match but sadly made a few mistakes in the final 2 stages which cost me. That said, I still managed a 6th place overall in PO and a second place in PO Senior.

My thanks to the match organisers, MD, RM and RO’s who set up and worked the match. Thanks also to my range buddies in Squad 26 for making it a great day out.

Here are a few PCC videos from the NGPSA HG & PCC provincial league 9 from Saturday (12/09).

This was a different match with much shorter stages and lower round counts. Stage planning and ex*****on were paramount!

I was fairly pleased with my performance but will be continuing to work on and polish certain aspects of my game. That said, I was happy with my 2nd place overall and my 1st place in PCCO Senior.

My thanks to the match organisers, MD, RM and RO’s who set up and worked the match. Thanks also to my range buddies in Squad 1 for helping to make it an enjoyable day out.

Further to my previous post, here are a few HG videos from the NGPSA HG & PCC provincial league 8 from Sunday (30/08).

As is to be expected from the Premier Shooting Club, this was a rather difficult and challenging match for the shooters and entailed far shots (sometimes at mini targets), small plates (often at distance), fast swingers (often at distance) and other technical aspects. All shooters' skills and abilities were tested to the max!

I thoroughly enjoyed the match but am continuing work on and polish aspects of my game. That said, I was not unhappy with my 3rd place overall in the PO Division and first place in PO Senior.

My thanks, as usual, to the match organisers, MD, RM and RO’s who set up and worked the match. Thanks also to my range buddies in Squad 27 for helping to make it a great day out.

I also wanted to recognise and thank my sponsors who make all of this possible:

All shooters' skills and abilities were tested to the max!

There's still quite a few elements of my game for me to work on, but I thoroughly enjoyed the match. That said, I was also fairly happy with my 5th place overall and my 1st place in PCCO Senior.
