🇧🇼 BOTSWANA NATIONAL LESEDI MOLAPISI RELEASED FROM BANGLADESHI PRISON:

Botswana national Lesedi Molapisi has been released from a prison in Bangladesh after her death sentence for drug smuggling was commuted.

The Office of the President of Botswana said her release followed sustained diplomatic efforts by the Botswana Government.

Molapisi was arrested in Dhaka on 23 January 2022 after she was found in possession of narcotics. She was convicted of drug smuggling and sentenced to death by a Bangladeshi court on 27 May 2024.

Her release came after President Advocate Duma Gideon Boko appealed for executive clemency and the commutation of her death sentence.

The development marks the end of Molapisi’s more than four-year ordeal in Bangladesh.

🔴19-year-old woman appears in court over Mankweng businessman’s murder:

Kagontle Moshibudi Sina Bopape, 19, appeared in the Mankweng Magistrate’s Court on Monday in connection with the December 2025 murder of businessman Tebogo Mothapo.

Bopape faces six charges, including murder, conspiracy to commit murder and robbery, and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. Her case was postponed to 1 September for legal aid.

Her co-accused, 27-year-old Osama Asad, also appeared in court, with his matter postponed for the State to address his bail application.

Mothapo, 43, was shot dead outside his home in Mankweng Zone 1 on 16 December 2025, with his cellphone taken during the attack.

Police say investigations are continuing and further arrests may follow. Both accused remain in custody.

🔴Viola Motsumi Removed as North West Education MEC

North West Premier Lazarus Mokgosi has reshuffled the Provincial Executive Council, removing Viola Motsumi as MEC for Education.

Motsumi, who served as Education MEC since December 2022, has been replaced by Dr Desbo Mohono, the former Speaker of the North West Provincial Legislature.

Dr Mohono will take over the Education portfolio with immediate effect.

The reshuffle was announced by Premier Mokgosi on Wednesday, 12 August 2026, as part of changes aimed at strengthening service delivery and provincial government performance.

Motsumi is reportedly set to be redeployed, with the ANC announcing her as its candidate for Speaker of the North West Provincial Legislature.

A 29-year-old teacher from Michael Zulu Primary School in Tsakane, Ekurhuleni, was tragically shot and killed at approximately 7:00 a.m. on Monday, 3 August 2026.

The incident took place near the school, where the educator was pronounced dead at the scene. Police and forensic teams responded promptly, secured the area, and have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
