**IF YOU ONLY LOOK AT HOW FAR YOU HAVE TO GO, YOU'LL NEVER SEE HOW FAR YOU'VE COME.**

Today, you get frustrated by mistakes you couldn't even avoid a year ago.

You expect yourself to hit shots you once didn't know how to play.

You're disappointed by results you would once have celebrated.

It's good to want to improve.

But sometimes remember where you started.

The challenges you've overcome.

The things you've learned.

The matches you can now handle differently.

**YOU'RE NOT YET THE PLAYER YOU WANT TO BECOME.**
**BUT YOU'RE NO LONGER THE PLAYER YOU USED TO BE.**

๐ŸŽพ A PREPARED RACKET DOESN'T ALWAYS MEAN A PREPARED PLAYER.

When a junior player is late on the forehand, the usual instruction is:

"Get your racket back earlier!"

But what about the shoulders?

The trunk?

The non-dominant arm?

The spacing?

At Coppini Tennis Academy, we want players to understand that good preparation involves the whole body, not just the racket.

The unit turn isn't about copying a perfect position from a professional player.

It's about getting organised early enough to hit the ball effectively.

In this article, we look at Rafael Nadal's forehand preparation and three drills players can try on court.

Coach Federico Coppini and a few of our players enjoying some training on the newly built clay courts at Portland Manor, near Knysna.

Itโ€™s been great getting to experience these courts, with beautiful surroundings and a lovely atmosphere for tennis. ๐ŸŒฟ

๐ŸŽพ YOUR DREAM CAN BE HUGE. YOUR DAILY WORK NEEDS TO BE SPECIFIC.

"I want to become a professional tennis player."

It's a goal we hear from ambitious juniors.

And there's nothing wrong with it.

But becoming professional isn't something you can practise tomorrow morning.

Improving your second serve is.

Making better decisions on short balls is.

Maintaining your tactical discipline under pressure is.

At Coppini Tennis Academy, we believe player development means connecting long-term ambitions to what happens on court every day.

Because training harder isn't always the answer.

Sometimes you need to understand what you're actually training for.

๐ŸŽพ YOUR TALENT MEANS VERY LITTLE IF IT NEVER SHOWS UP IN MATCHES.

Some junior players look incredible in practice.

They hit winners.

They control rallies.

They seem ready to compete at a much higher level.

But when the match gets tight, their game changes.

They stop attacking.

They slow down their second serve.

They choose safety instead of the shots they've spent months developing.

At Coppini Tennis Academy, we want players to build more than technical ability.

We want them to learn how to access that ability when it matters.

Because being able to hit a shot once isn't the same as being able to rely on it.

**IT'S NOT ALWAYS WHAT HAPPENS ON COURT THAT GETS YOU.**

It's the story you tell yourself afterward.

You miss an easy shot.

โ€œI can't keep a ball in.โ€

You lose three points in a row.

โ€œHere we go. I'm going to lose.โ€

Your opponent hits a winner.

โ€œHe's too good for me.โ€

One point is just one point.

**BUT THE STORY YOU BUILD AROUND IT CAN CHANGE THE ENTIRE MATCH.**

๐ŸŽพ YOUR NEXT GOAL SHOULDN'T ERASE YOUR LAST ACHIEVEMENT.

A junior player works for months to reach the national top 100.

Finally, they make it.

But a few days later, the conversation has already changed.

Now it's about the top 50.

Then the top 20.

Naomi Osaka recently shared how she experienced a similar feeling of constantly falling behind, even after achieving extraordinary success.

At Coppini Tennis Academy, we believe ambition matters.

But so does recognizing the progress behind every result.

Because appreciating what you've achieved doesn't mean you're finished improving.

๐ŸŽพ "I DON'T WANT TO PLAY ANYMORE."

Almost every competitive junior has experienced that thought.

A lost lead.

Three bad games.

An opponent who refuses to miss.

Suddenly, the player isn't trying to solve the match anymore. They just want it to end.

But wanting to escape a difficult moment isn't the same as making a decision to quit.

Learning that difference is part of becoming a stronger competitor.

And it's something we believe should be trained, not just talked about.
