One of the great privileges of hunting in Africa is that the experience doesn’t end with the animal you came to pursue.

While hunting in one of our areas, we were fortunate enough to come across this magnificent white rhino—a truly special encounter that you simply cannot plan for.

They look at you with those deep, dark eyes as if you owe them money — and they are certainly not there to negotiate! 😂

Sometimes the hardest shot to take… is the one you choose not to take. 🏔️

This magnificent Mountain Reedbuck ram is everything a hunter dreams of finding — a beautiful animal, incredible horn potential, and a phenomenal trophy in the making.

But there’s one problem…

He’s simply too young.

At African Bovine Safaris, ethical hunting means more than harvesting an animal. It means understanding the age structure of the herd, respecting the resource, and knowing when an animal deserves to be left for another day.

A young ram like this has the potential to become an exceptional mature trophy, and allowing him to grow and contribute to the breeding population is part of responsible wildlife management.

Walking away from an animal you could legally shoot takes discipline. True trophy hunting isn’t just about pulling the trigger — it’s about making the right decision when the opportunity presents itself.

A truly magnificent black giraffe bull — a sight that never gets old.

As giraffe bulls mature, their coat patterns can become significantly darker. The oldest, most mature bulls can develop an exceptionally dark, almost black appearance, making these animals some of the most impressive trophies the African bush has to offer.

A mature giraffe bull like this is not simply about the trophy. Well-managed hunting is an important part of wildlife conservation in Africa. Sustainable hunting can generate revenue that helps fund habitat protection, anti-poaching efforts, local communities and the continued management of healthy wildlife populations.

Taking a mature bull means removing an animal that has already contributed years of genetics to the population while creating an economic incentive to keep wild habitat intact.

The magnificent kudu has earned its legendary nickname for good reason. Blending effortlessly into the shadows with its slate-gray coat and incredible ability to disappear into thick bush, a mature bull can seem to vanish right before your eyes. Last light is when these elusive giants often become most active, making every minute count.

There is nothing quite like spotting the spiral horns of a trophy kudu emerging from the fading light, heart racing as the final moments of the day unfold. It’s a hunt that demands patience, sharp eyes, and respect for one of Africa’s most iconic antelope.

The Mountain Reedbuck is a true master of camouflage. Among the rugged rocks and steep slopes of the Waterberg Mountains, they blend into the landscape so perfectly that you can walk past one without ever knowing it was there.

This is mountain hunting at its finest. Every step, every glassing point, and every careful approach is earned. When you finally spot that subtle outline hidden among the rocks, you realize why pursuing a Mountain Reedbuck is such a rewarding challenge.

As Professional Hunters, we’re usually focused on making sure our clients have the hunt of a lifetime. We spend countless days guiding, tracking, glassing, and celebrating their success, often leaving very little time for hunting ourselves.

This time, though, I was fortunate enough to be on the other side of the r***e.

What made it even more special was the animal itself—an impala ewe with horns, a rare trophy in its own right. To top it all off, her horns are shaped almost exactly like those of a sable, making her one of the most unique impalas I’ve ever come across.

To top it all off I had the privilege to do this with my brother Ryan sorour .It’s moments like these that remind us why we fell in love with hunting in the first place. Not every trophy is measured in inches—sometimes it’s the story, the rarity, and the memories that make an animal truly special. ***e
