The recent Zambia Athletics - ZA elections were a pivotal moment for the future of the sport in our country. During this critical time, the unwavering support received from key stakeholders played an essential role in ensuring a smooth and inclusive process, one that prioritized the best interests of our athletes.

The Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts provided strong leadership and guidance, reminding all parties of the greater goal the development and success of athletics in Zambia. Hon. Elvis Nkandu, MP played a vital role in mediating discussions and ensuring the election process adhered to standards.Their involvement helped set a tone of unity and professionalism throughout the process.

The National Olympic Committee of Zambia NOCZ Their experience and neutrality helped build trust among the various factions, promoting a fair and transparent electoral environment.

Equally important was the contribution of the National Sports Council of Zambia - NSCZ which worked tirelessly to bring all stakeholders together. Through dialogue and consultation, the helped iron out misunderstandings and differences, keeping the focus on moving forward in the best interest of the athletes and the sport as a whole.

The collective efforts of these bodies, the elections were not only successfully conducted, but also marked by a renewed sense of unity and purpose. Their support ensured that personal differences were set aside, and the athletes' welfare was placed at the forefront of the agenda.

ELVIS NKANDU STRONGLY CAUTIONS INCOMING ZA EXECUTIVE AGAINST BUILDING A KINGDOM

MINISTER of Youth, sport and arts Elvis Nkandu has strongly cautioned the incoming Zambia Athletics Executive against building a kingdom within the organization, emphasizing the importance of democratic leadership.

Speaking at the ongoing ZA elective AGM,hon Nkandu's warning stresses on the emphasis that he wants the new executive to prioritize the organization's goals and objectives over personal interests of leadership. This is in line with his efforts to promote integrity and efficience in sports and also promote good governance.

Hon Minister Nkandu aims at ensuring that the Zambia Athletics Association is led effectively and in a democratic way. Hon Nkandu has called on all councilor to make prudent decisions and not tolerate bribery from candidates who wants to manipulate the outcome of the elections.

FINALIZED FORMAT FOR MIXED 4x100m RELAY World Athletics has announced the woman-woman-man-man running order for the mixed 4x100m relay event. The event will debut at the World Relays Guangzhou 2025, with a subsequent review of the format. Official records for the event will be recognized from January 1, 2026, with the initial record requiring a performance surpassing the best mark of 2025. The event will also feature at the inaugural World Athletics Ultimate Championship in Budapest 2026.

INTRODUCTION OF 300M HURDLES AS AN OFFICIAL EVENT

The 300m hurdles have been confirmed as an official event by World Athletics. The event will be integrated into world rankings, similar to the 400m hurdles, and a list of world bests will be maintained. The conditions for setting the inaugural world record will be determined once the event gains more global traction.

World Athletics President Lord Sebastian Coe has announced that Botswana 🇧🇼 will host the 2026 World Athletics Relays, with the event set to take place in Gaborone, Botswana. This marks a historic milestone, as Botswana will be the first African country to host the relays since the event's introduction in 2014.
