No publicity is bad publicity, especially in the digital age where every man and his dog are competing for consumer attention.
City is the most talked about Football Club on the planet, every move we make is box office gold, particularly when perceived in City's detriment.
You only have to look at the recent coke fuelled anti Liverpool ramblings of referee David Coote and it's subsequent fallout to see just how embedded under the worlds skin we've actually gotten.
Since the Coote saga unfolded, untold numbers of reds have been up in arms about him being on VAR when City went to Goodison Park where Rodri "got away with" handball in the penalty box.
However, it's not a very plausible theory given the fact he wasn't there that day and had no involvement in that match at all.
They're also producing stats that feature various clubs win rates with him in charge of the game, with City's being at 100%... Which is pretty good going, especially for a team that before last week was on the fourth longest unbeaten run in history...
They even claim he was born and raised in Manchester, and was a Manchester City fan all his life before distancing himself from his allegiances to become a Premier League referee, and that he's been our man on the inside the entire time...
But, alas, he's from Nottingham and he's a lifelong Notts County supporter, so yet another reason for the one title wonders to be angry for no reason at all.
Ultimately, football is for our entertainment, and during our quest to Glory we've inadvertently acquired the title of pantomime villain, and as long as we continue to be successful, that's our assigned role within the wider narrative of the English game and beyond.
It therefore stands to reason that whenever anything happens of any kind, there will be people out there trying somehow to make it about the villain, be it blaming, framing or defaming, the villain can't be allowed to continue without taking the rap for the worlds problems.
But all's fair in
