Zambia Schools Hockey Union - Zahosu

The Zambia U18 Schools Select Hockey Teams will this evening depart for Harare, Zimbabwe for this weekend's Tri-Nations against hosts Zimbabwe and Namibia.

The teams will fly out Harare at 17:00 Hrs via Fly Emirates.

Zambian Sports Development Agency has unveiled the Hockey Select kit for upcoming Tri-Nations Tournament to be held in Harare, Zimbabwe from the 8th to 11th August 2024.

The Hockey Select team is composed of talented young players from Schools and the Hockey Dreams foundation.

A total of 32 players will represent the Zambia Sports Development Association.

The tournament will feature Namibia, Zambia and hosts Zimbabwe.

The highly anticipated Zimbabwe Junior Hockey Series is back.

This year's event we feature three nations with Namibia set to make it's debut.

2024 ISAZ HOCKEY NATIONALS LINEUP SET

Following the conclusion of the last regional qualifiers which were held yesterday at the Italian School of Lusaka, the lineup of all the Schools that have secured qualification is now set.

The ISAZ Hockey Nationals is an annual event which is held during the winter to crown the best School in the field Hockey competition and serves as selection for the developmental teams that go on to represent Zambia at the test series in Zimbabwe.

Games coordinator Ishmael Mbatata expressed his gratitude to all the teams that showed great sportsmanship during and after the games, recognizing the importance of Sports in schools.

"Incorporating sports into the school curriculum goes beyond promoting physical fitness; it shapes well-rounded individuals equipped with essential life skills.

Hockey is one of the fastest growing sports among all schools in Zambia and I am happy to see a couple of new schools getting involved this year, actually one of the schools (Rhodespark) which recently joined has gone on to qualify for the nationals," he said.

The Hockey Schools Nationals will bring together all top Hockey Schools across Zambia as they battle it out for the prestigious trophy.

Ishmael Mbatata said the impact of the Hockey Schools Nationals would be felt right across the Territory.

“We are so grateful and excited to continue this annual event, it is a program that all other Hockey Associations are taking seriously and we are excited about the impact it can have for young people across the country.

We want to ensure we are connecting with these students and providing them with opportunities to engage with hockey, enjoying the many benefits our game can bring including improved health and wellbeing, creating lifelong friendships and uniting community,” Mbatata said.

With the prestigious National Hockey competition will be held on Friday, June 7, 2024 at the Italian School of Lusaka and the following have secured qualification.

In the Girls category;
Lusaka International Community School, Martin House, Italian School of Lusaka and Baobab College will represent Midlands & Southern Region while Trident College, Chengelo, Simba International and Kabitaka will represent the Northern & Central Region.

In the Boys category, we see the Italian School of Lusaka, Rhodespark, Martin House and the Lusaka International Community School represent the Midlands & Southern Region with the Northern & Central Region being represented by Trident College, Chengelo, Simba International and Mpelembe.

Today is Thursday and we thought of taking you back to last year's tournament in Zimbabwe.

But guess what, the 2024 tournament will be bigger as it will see the inclusion of Namibia in what will be a Tri-Nation competition.

ISAZ REGIONAL QUALIFIERS SET FOR THIS FRIDAY

The Italian School of Lusaka is set to be the hub of great Hockey this Friday 17th June 2024 as they host the ISAZ Regional Hockey Qualifiers.

The ISAZ Regional Hockey Qualifiers which are usually held in the winter will be used to select the top four Midlands teams per gender which will go on to compete at the 2024 ISAZ nationals to be held at the Italian School of Lusaka on the 7th June 2024.

Speaking to Ishmael Mbatata who is Head of Sports at Italian School of Lusaka and coordinator for this tournament, Mr Mbatata expressed excitement to host the prestigious competition which is being tipped as the key changer for the development of Hockey in Zambia.

"As Italian School of Lusaka, we are excited to be hosting the ISAZ Hockey Nationals at the Italian School of Lusaka, It is an honor for us to be hosting such a prestigious event.

Just last year we were celebrating 50 years of Golden Jubilee this year we are running with the button in all areas. We want to be one of the Schools that will contribute to the development of Sports and other areas in Zambia. We want our students to be true ambassadors role models and pillars of the Nation," he said.

A total of 16 teams are set to participate in the Regional Qualifiers which will translate to 8 boys teams and 8 Girls teams.
