THE PEOPLES PACT INITIATING A GOVERNMENT OF NATIONAL UNITY BEYOND THE 13TH AUGUST 2026: ONLY HOPE FOR ZAMBIA
*HH (fear) + ECZ (fear) = http://13.08.LOSS*
1. Defining the "fear" variables
*HH (fear)*
This isn't about HH being scared. It means _voter fear/anxiety associated with HH's administration_. In Zambian political discourse that usually points to:
- *Economic fear*: Cost of living, fuel, mealie meal prices, kwacha volatility, debt restructuring pain
- *Political fear*: Perceptions of shrinking civic space, arrests of opposition, cadres intimidating citizens
- *Expectation fear*: 2021 campaign promises vs 2026 delivery gap. Unmet expectations create apprehension about "more of the same"
*ECZ (fear)*
This means _voter distrust in the electoral referee_. Drivers typically include:
- *Competence doubts*: Voter register issues, ballot printing delays, results transmission failures
- *Bias accusations*: Claims that ECZ favors the incumbent because commissioners are presidential appointees
- *History*: Lingering disputes from past elections like 2016 and 2021 where losing sides alleged malpractice
2. Why addition, not multiplication
The equation uses `+` because these fears are additive in the public mind. They reinforce each other. When voters think "I don't trust the president" AND "I don't trust the referee", the combined effect is stronger turnout against the status quo. Fear of HH pushes people away. Fear of ECZ convinces them the game is rigged, so they either vote defensively in large numbers or disengage entirely.
Both paths hurt the incumbent HH not the majority suffering in the UPND.
3. The http://13.08.LOSS mechanism
*13.08* = 13 August, Zambia's set election date. Next one is 13 August 2026.
*Pathway to LOSS:*
a. *Legitimacy erosion*: If ECZ is feared, HH doesn't get credit even for fair wins. Every result looks suspicious.
b. *Turnout shift*: Fear drives opposition supporters to vote as a "protective" act. It also demoralizes ruling party base if they think ECZ can't deliver for them either.
c. *Narrative control*: Once "fear" is the frame, the opposition campaign writes itself: "vote to end the fear." The incumbent spends the campaign denying, which is a weak position.
d. *Swing voter math*: Zambia's elections are decided by youth and urban voters. That's the demographic most sensitive to cost of living fear and most active on social media where ECZ distrust spreads.
4. Historical intrapolation
Look at 2021: PF (fear) + ECZ (fear) = http://12.08.LOSS for Lungu.
High debt fear, cadre violence fear, plus ECZ delays and court battles created the same compound effect. Voters punished the incumbent.
The equation is basically saying history rhymes. If HH and ECZ carry the same "fear coefficients" into August 2026, the output mirrors 2021 but with roles reversed.
5. What would break the equation
The formula only holds if both terms stay high. Change either variable:
- *HH (confidence) + ECZ (fear)* = Toss-up. Incumbent can still lose if referee distrust dominates.
- *HH (fear) + ECZ (confidence)* = Closer race. A trusted ECZ gives the incumbent a fair shot to argue their case.
- *HH (confidence) + ECZ (confidence)* = LOSS term disappears.
So the real battle is over the "fear" variables, not just policy. Perception management of ECZ matters as much as achievement inflammation management for HH + Excessive-Salt in vegetables daily!
We will model it with numbers. We will assign weights to each "fear" factor and see how high they need to be to trigger the LOSS output in the next few days.

Ranking Member Shaheen, Senators Schatz and C***s Press State Department on Reports of Conditioning HIV Aid on Economic Concessions in Zambia
WASHINGTON – Yesterday, U.S. Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), Ranking Member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Chris C***s (D-DE) and Brian Schatz (D-HI) sent a letter to Secretary of State Marco Rubio raising alarm over reports that the State Department is considering withholding critical HIV/AIDS treatment and economic assistance to Zambia unless the country agrees to favorable economic reforms for U.S. businesses. The Senators warned that conditioning lifesaving assistance on economic concessions would undermine bipartisan global health efforts, disrupt treatment for millions and weaken U.S. standing in Africa. They urged the Department of State to reject this approach and ensure that U.S. foreign assistance supports long-term health, development and strategic interests without coercion.
“We are alarmed by reports that officials at the U.S. Department of State are proposing to withhold U.S. support for HIV treatment for 1.3 million HIV positive Zambians, and previously pledged economic assistance by the Millenium Challenge Corporation unless Zambian officials agree to provide the United States favorable economic reforms for U.S businesses. We urge you to reject this tactic of economic coercion,” wrote the Senators.
“Holding lifesaving assistance hostage for American access to Zambian copper mines is a disturbing break from the long held bipartisan support for PEPFAR. In that environment, this added development that the State Department may begin conditioning health assistance on economic concessions would again risk disrupting health access for people whose lives depend on daily treatment,” continued the Senators.
“We believe any concessions secured by leveraging health or development assistance will be unsustainable, cost lives, and undermine U.S. interests on the continent in the long-term. We urge you to update guidance to foreign service officers in the field and in Washington, D.C., to make clear that commercial diplomacy must do no harm and must support other foreign policy and national security priorities,” concluded the Senators.
Full text of the letter is available HERE and provided below.
Dear Secretary Rubio,
We are alarmed by reports that officials at the U.S. Department of State are proposing to withhold U.S. support for HIV treatment for 1.3 million HIV positive Zambians, and previously pledged economic assistance by the Millenium Challenge Corporation unless Zambian officials agree to provide the United States favorable economic reforms for U.S businesses. We urge you to reject this tactic of economic coercion.
Holding lifesaving assistance hostage for American access to Zambian copper mines is a disturbing break from the long held bipartisan support for PEPFAR. In the wake of the chaos created by the stop work orders in early 2025, confusion over the narrow definition of what constitutes “lifesaving” aid, and a lack of transparency around U.S. global health assistance budget and performance data, Congress has reaffirmed near full funding for such assistance. However, we remain disturbed that PEPFAR and other health programs are not fully operational. In that environment, this added development that the State Department may begin conditioning health assistance on economic concessions would again risk disrupting health access for people whose lives depend on daily treatment.
We support your commitment to the Lobito Corridor which will traverse through Zambia to enhance regional connectivity, secure critical mineral supply chains, and drive sustainable economic growth. That is why we are surprised to learn that funding to Zambia through the MCC and DFC are also contingent on critical mineral related negotiations. We agree that critical minerals are essential to our strategic national security and economic future, and we share your goal of encouraging greater reforms and an even playing field for U.S. businesses in Zambia, which would be mutually beneficial to both countries. But we believe any concessions secured by leveraging health or development assistance will be unsustainable, cost lives, and undermine U.S. interests on the continent in the long-term. The pursuit of commercial diplomacy at all costs, including at the cost of the lives of people who depend on HIV, malaria, TB, and other medical treatment, is not an effective long-term strategy. It also will not advance our health security interests or the U.S.-Zambian relationship, which is critical for American companies to access Zambian markets.
We urge you to update guidance to foreign service officers in the field and in Washington, D.C., to make clear that commercial diplomacy must do no harm and must support other foreign policy and national security priorities.
We thank you for your attention to this important issue and look forward to your response.

MUHAMMAD SEEDAT: Where Is The Once-Upon-A-Time City ‘Yamoto’ Crowd Favorite?
By Augustine Mukoka
Legend Charles Musonda, revered as Charly Cool in his hey day, has just triggered my memory. He’s written about that one rare gem we watched in the Zambian League - Muhammad Seedat.
If you were a regular at Woodlands Stadium between 1990 & 2000, you will remember Seedat. He was a crowd favorite, but not a regular starter.
He had some flashes each time he came on as a super sub. We enjoyed watching him. During off season, he would also play in the Chawama Christmas Cup.
And when not on the pitch, you would find Seedat at their family shop on Cha Cha Cha Road near town center. Such an affable character.
Where is Muhammad Seedat?
HERE IS CHARLY COOL’S WRITE UP
He played football for City of Lusaka, i watched him there.. he pulled people in. Wherever he went, there was anticipation. And those who watched him.. They still carry those memories. He did his part entertaining, inspiring, leaving a mark. His name.. Muhammad Seedat 👏
One day someone came up to us.. Hey Charles, come and see Seedat, there is a spot selling ama samosas. We went. He came out… a bit shy, humble. Hey, nice meeting you. We spoke about football. I told him to keep going.. Then came the familiar faces Bena Mankinka 🙏, Evans Sakala joining in. It turned into one of those moments you don’t plan, but you never forget. Present time, real vibes… close to Lennox’s favourite jigs at Totos and Jats Hungarian sausages and pies.. those were the in thing places in Lusaka.. Place to be..
“Totos we loved it for a reason” 😳😊😂
Do you remember how some players earned nicknames.. A name, given by the people. Sometimes it sticks so well because they play like another famous player. Who became popular by the nickname in Zambian football.. like calling someone UCAR, Great Kalu, Christopher Katongo or Daka.. A player don’t have to match their prowess 😳🤔⚽️⚽️⚽️
But here’s the thing.. Seedart’s football was always his own style and we loved it ⚽️

Nyati explains delay on Prime TV in locating article authorizing Pastor Chanda's expulsion
By Caesar Sindele
New Congress Party (NCP) Acting President, Daniel Nyati, has clarified the viral online criticism about his familiarity with the party's Constitution.
In an interview, Mr. Nyati explained that the delay in locating the relevant article authorizing Pastor Peter Chanda's expulsion as NCP president when he recently featured on Prime Television's "Matters Arising Programme" anchored by Paul Shingongo was due to the lack of page numbers in the Constitution filed with the Chief Registrar of Societies by Pastor Chanda.
Mr. Nyati stated that Pastor Chanda was expelled for making unilateral decisions contrary to Article 4.3 (a) of the NCP Constitution which mandates the National Executive Committee (NEC) to endorse key decisions.
Mr. Nyati specifically said Pastor Chanda withdrew NCP from the Tonse Alliance and endorsed Patriotic Front (PF) candidate Makebi Zulu's presidential bid without NEC consensus.
Mr. Nyati cited these actions as reasons for the expulsion, stating they caused party disarray.
Mr. Nyati added that requests for a meeting with Pastor Chanda to discuss his decisions were met with authoritarian behaviour.
Mr. Nyati also questioned Pastor Chanda's eligibility to run as Republican President, particularly if he possessed a Grade 12 School Certificate, citing his withdrawal from the 2021 elections after the party paid nomination fees. - Caesar Sindele
