Western Province Roars at the Lusaka 2025 National Youth Games
At the just-ended Lusaka 2025 National Youth Games, the princes and princesses of the Litunga from Western Province announced their presence with authority, resilience, and unmistakable class. Both the boys’ and girls’ volleyball teams delivered performances that reflected not only preparation, but a deep competitive spirit befitting true heirs of the plains.
Group Stage: Authority on Display
In the opening rounds, Western Province swept past the so-called wise from the East, Eastern Province, with convincing 2–0 victories in both the boys’ and girls’ categories. The momentum continued against the big farmers, Central Province, who were also brushed aside 2–0 by the determined princes and princesses.
The only stumble came against the heart of Zambia, Lusaka Province, where both Western Province teams fell 0–2. However, the setback only sharpened their focus. Regrouping swiftly, Western Province closed the group stage with dominant 2–0 wins over the mineral cousins, North‑Western Province.
With three wins out of four matches, both the boys’ and girls’ teams finished the group stage with 9 points each, comfortably qualifying for the semifinals.
Semifinals: Settling Old Scores
The semifinal stage pitted Western Province against the old tribal cousins from Southern Province. In encounters charged with history and pride, the princes and princesses of the Litunga rose above sentiment. With clinical precision and disciplined play, Western Province triumphed 2–0 in both the boys’ and girls’ semifinals, booking a place in the grand finals.
Finals: Pride, Pain, and Glory
The finals brought a familiar rival back into focus — Lusaka Province, the ever-pulsing heart of the nation.
In the girls’ final, Western Province struck first, claiming the opening set and igniting hopes of gold. But Lusaka responded with resolve, taking the second set and ultimately edging the decider. Despite the loss, the princesses of the Litunga displayed courage and composure, earning a well-deserved silver medal and national admiration.
The boys’ final told a different story. Western Province seized the first set, Lusaka answered in the second, and the contest balanced on a knife’s edge. In the deciding set, the princes of the plains dug deep, unleashing grit, teamwork, and belief. When the final point fell, Western Province stood tall — the true elephant in the room, claiming gold and writing their names into National Youth Games history.
A Campaign to Remember
From silencing the wise from the East, outworking the big farmers, overpowering mineral cousins, and outlasting old tribal rivals, Western Province’s campaign was one of dominance and destiny. With gold for the boys and silver for the girls, the princes and princesses of the Litunga leave Lusaka 2025 with heads held high, having proven that Western Province is not just participating on the national stage — it is leading the charge.
