"*TRANSFORMING A TOXIC RIVER.
The Jacha Foot Bridge Clean-Up Story"

On November 10, 2023, the DMEC team embarked on a mission to reclaim the Jacha Foot Bridge and its polluted river. The once-pristine waterway had become a toxic eyesore, choked with litter, diapers, and other waste. The water had turned a murky black, posing a significant threat to the surrounding community.

The houses built along the riverbank were in peril, facing the constant risk of flooding, epidemic diseases, and drowning. The situation was dire, and immediate action was necessary.

The DMEC team sprang into action, with the full support of Epworth Local Board organizing a clean-up campaign to restore the river to its former glory. With gloves, trash bags, wheelbarrows, shovels and determination, the team worked tirelessly to remove the waste and debris clogging the river.

As the clean-up progressed, the transformation was nothing short of remarkable. The river began to flow freely once more, and the water started to clear. The community, who had grown accustomed to the pollution, couldn't believe their eyes.

The DMEC team's efforts not only improved the aesthetic appeal of the area but also mitigated the health risks associated with the pollution. The clean-up campaign served as a powerful reminder of the importance of community involvement in environmental conservation.

As the team reflected on their accomplishment, they knew that this was just the beginning. The fight against pollution and environmental degradation is ongoing, and it requires collective effort and commitment.

The Jacha Foot Bridge clean-up serves as a beacon of hope, demonstrating that even the most seemingly insurmountable environmental challenges can be overcome through determination, hard work, and community spirit.
