We are looking at dates in the future that could be used instead - please give us a few weeks to work on this.

Dear All,

Thank you to all of those who have contacted us today to ask about InterGulf 🙂

As I am sure you are aware it has all gone slightly crazy here as the announcement that schools are closing went out - we have all had full on days at work for us to try and get our everyday jobs organised! And have now only just been able to meet.

InterGulf 34
Until further notice this tournament will be carrying on as normal as possible! We hope that no government directives come into place and prevent the tournament and we hope the weekend will be great fun, with plenty of netball on show.

Youth InterGulf 5
Unfortunately we believe the best case of action is to postpone this tournament until the weekend of 6th and 7th November 2020. Please give us a few weeks to get a plan out about this. We are working with the hotel, at the moment we are of the understanding that any bookings will be moved to our new dates.

InterGulf Advisory Board
This was something we were going to bring up at the regional meeting - however the events of the last week have made this slightly more important! Please have a think about this and potential representatives prior to the regional meeting!

Statement re InterGulf 34 and Youth InterGulf 5 and Coronavirus

At present there are a number of precautionary measures taking place within the UAE, particularly at a school level. We are aware that there are also measures taking place amongst the Gulf region that may affect different teams in different ways.

We are very hopeful that the event will go ahead, however are having to plan a number of scenarios from best case to worst case. We have unfortunately, but understandably, had some teams already drop out due to travel issues which then affect employment.

As we are sure you are all aware, there is also large financial commitments that have already been made on behalf of the teams in preparation for the tournament and we need to minimize potential losses that could cause much bigger long term problems for ourselves here in Abu Dhabi.

Advice that we have received to date suggest that the event should go ahead.

Please see below for potential changes:

Competitions:
Championship competition - will remain a separate competition, if numbers reduce significantly game time may become longer, or “home” and “away” games will be played amongst teams.
The Vets/Challenge (formerly competitive social) / Social competitions – any, and or all, of these categories may be combined at the group stages, however, will always become separate for finals. E.g. group games may be played as combined competitions, but once we move to knock outs and play-offs will become three separate competitions.

Hotel:
We are working closely with the Crowne Plaza who are in the process of coming up with a variety of plans for us. However, they have assured us that rooms / welcome event / gala dinner is their job to coordinate and not our (or your) responsibility.

Umpires:
At present we are still hopeful that all umpires will be attending, and this should be as planned.

Transport:
At the moment we see no reason why any transport arrangements should need to change. However, if it does we may use taxis rather than buses, and ask teams from the UAE to travel in their own cars to and from the hotel.

Brochure / Score Poster:
Due to likelihood of multiple changes being made to teams and schedules it is probable that the brochure will become an E-format only. The schedule and score poster will also potentially not be printed as large displays but on smaller formats that can be produced last minute.

Merchandise:
All orders have been placed – however we are in talks with the company to see what options are available. Worst case; the hoody order will be cancelled but t-shirt order will still be made.

An email has been sent to regional coordinators this morning. The tournament will go ahead with available teams unless we are instructed to cancel.

We are working with the hotel at the moment and they are coming up with a variety of plans just in case.
