Heritage Arabian Racing Club - HARC

HARC aims to encourage the racing of all Arabians as part of a selection test as has been carried out traditionally in various countries over centuries

In order to preserve the classic characteristics of the purebred Arabian horse, it has been agreed that a HARC (Heritage Arabian Racing Club) horse is any purebred Arabian registered in any WAHO accepted stud book which does not contain the blood of the following stallions in any generation of its pedigree. Stallions excluded : Amer, Baroud III, Burning Sand, Dragon, St.Laurent and Tiwaiq"

A special mention for the Heritage race , kindly sponsored by HARC (Heritage Arabian Racing Club) that we run together with the Wathba Stallions III in Waregem on 7th of September . The fastest Heritage horse : Zafeer K.A. ( by QR Marc ex Zagrobla) was less than 8% slower than the fastest horse of the "open" section, Jamas D.A., who was indeed very fast this race (54.19km/h).

ZAFEER K.A. did the 2120m in 2'29"298/1000 = 51.12kml/h ...

AMMAR IBN ANJALI by Monther al Nasser ex Anjali Aneekha by FS Bengali) finished second after a serious fight , with a short head in front of ADHAM AL WAAB by Amaar al Rayyan ex RN Dananeer by ansata Halim Shah . Altogether they were a few seconds slower , with their speed just under 50km/h. With more experience , they probably will improve a lot.

One of the important European countries for HARC is Spain, as they have a group of some 30 to 40 HARC horses racing almost every week at the track of Antela ( Galicia)

It is important to support this group of Heritage-horses as they are an interesting genetic pool of essentially old Spanish bloodlines. Spain was for a long time isolated from the other European countries as far as racing is concerned and therefor the breed was not influenced (yet) by the modern Arab-race-blood.

The “Spanish HARC Championship”is also the pre-selection for Spanish team to come to the European HARC Championship in Belgium, early November.

The race was run on 16th of June, at “Hipodrome de Antela” and had 10 entries , but one non-starter.

The distance was covered in 2’08” by the grey JF CARDALI (n° 8) belonging to IAN, trained by I.Gomez and ridden by T.Ruiz.

All horses carried the same weight as this was a “selection race” ... reason why the arrival was rather spread out...

The picture of the gates is of another race, just to show the scenery of the northern part of Spain ...

The President of the Galician Jockey Club, the organiser of the races in Galicia : Jaime Vazquez and all participants of the Heritage races thank HARC for the support of the Heritage races in Spain.

On 5th of May, we run our second Heritage-race, now on the turf of Waregem in a race over 1600m. It was the occasion for ZAFEER K.A. (BE) to be honoured in front of the HARC-flags ! Zafeer K.A. is bred by Knocke Arabians in Belgium. He is by the show World Champion Q.R. Marc, out of the Polish-bred Zagrobla by Monogramm... and through Zazula traces back to Selma and is thus a Hamdaniyah Simriyah, one of the more athletic strains. He is just four years old and still in full progress. His race-time (over 1600m) was only 6% slower than the winner of the “open” race. He kept up with the pack of non-heritage arabs, untill those took off for the final sprint (as only non-heritage horses can do ... ). He is still belonging to Mr Gheysens of Knocke Arabians, is trained by Bert Delariviere and was ridden by Christof Dehens (one of the more experienced Belgian professionnal jockeys). The three pictures at the race-track are by Guy Tratsaert and the one at home by Bert (I suppose)
Thanks again to our sponsors HARC and BAPS-SBCA (Belgian Arabian Horse Registry) to support the Heritage horses in racing.

On 15th of April, we had a Heritage race over 1500m on Hippodrome de Wallonie (Ghlin) on stabilised sand and one of the Heritage-horses was the double HARC-champion of the European Championships of 2016 and 2017: PAMILLS LIPSE (SE) by Top Flyte (US) ex Pamill (SE) by Pamir (PL) was fast enough (52.03km/H) to come in fourth in the “open” section of the race, beating 6 non-heritage horses. The mare is 8 years in between and seems to only come to her full maturity now. She impressed all ! Enclosed a picture of this win (pict Lamia.biz) and one of her win in the HARC-Championship 2017 to compare (pict by Leigh Young). We congratulate breeder Ingrid Kindh, owner-trainer Maria Hagman and rider: the Belgian Fegentri Champion 2018: Sara Vermeersch.
With thanks to our sponsors for this Heritage race: HARC and BAPS-SBCA (Belgian Arabian Horse Registry)

Super good news from the office of HH Sh Sultan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan! In 2019 the High Horse Committee of his office was charged to support financially a couple of HARC- activities: the International Championship in Ghlin being one of them.

I am very proud that our Championship and the efforts it represents to give the old bloodlines of Arabian horses ( the Heritage-horses ) the chance to prove their athletic ability in flat racing, was selected. The two previous editions (2016 - 2017) were an enormous success with horses coming from as far as Russia (taking twice the Nations Cup), Sweden (winning twice the individual first) and even all the way from Iran!

The 2019 edition will take place on 4th of November at Ghlin (Belgium, near Mons), during the same meeting as the Closing race. There will be 6 "prep"-races spread over the season for the Heritage-horses ... for sure a good argument to acquire one and prepare it for the Championship (prizemoney 20.000 euro + travel incentives)!
