YACHT OF THE YEAR WINNERS!

ADOR has won once more - this time collecting the Royal Ocean Racing Club (RORC) Yacht of the Year trophy at a glittering ceremony in the UK on Saturday.
Skipper Ian Walker, Phil Harmer and Guy Barron collected the award from RORC CEO Eddie Warden Owen (far right) and Commodore Michael Boyd (second right).

SKIPPER UP FOR WORLD SAILOR OF THE YEAR AWARD

Since making history by leading ADOR to Volvo Ocean Race glory in June, the accolades for our super skipper Ian Walker - the first British skipper to win the world's longest, and most challenging professional sporting event - have continued to rack up... and now he's up for one more; the ISAF Rolex World Sailor of the Year Award.

Set to be held on 10 November in Sanya, China - one of the ports-of-call for the Volvo Ocean Race 2014-15, the Awards ceremony celebrates the world's finest sailors' achievements, with Ian up against four other contenders for the title.

ISAF Rolex World Sailor of the Year Nominees Announced

CHAMPIONS RIGHT ON TRACK

Standing by with advice on winning in wet conditions – should the need arise - skipper Ian Walker and Emirati sailor Adil Khalid had a champion-to-champion chat with Tinkoff-Saxo super cyclist Peter Sagan as the road racing star prepared to compete in the UAE capital’s inaugural Abu Dhabi Tour competition at Yas Marina Circuit.

Meeting at the iconic track, the location for the upcoming Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, the Volvo Ocean Race 2014-15 winners and the Slovakian star, who won the World Road Race Championships last month in America, swapped stories and team shirts before Sagan had to gear up for the final Leg of the Tour.

“I follow cycling and so it has been amazing to observe so many of the world’s top cyclists here in Abu Dhabi this week,” said Ian. “They are supreme athletes and Peter Sagan is the most explosive of them all. It was an honour to meet the reigning world champion and to watch him race!”

As an incredible climax to the Volvo Ocean Race adventure, our victorious Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing team were honoured to be invited to meet His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, where he congratulated the entire crew on their win at the round-the-world challenge.

With Sheikh Saud bin Rashid Al Mualla, Ruler of Umm Al Quwain, and Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority Chairman HE Sheikh Sultan Bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan and TCA’s Acting Director General HE Jasem Al Darmaki in attendance, ADOR skipper Ian Walker and Emirati sailor Adil Khalid presented the trophy and a commemorative framed team shirt to the Crown Prince at the event at Al Bateen Palace, Abu Dhabi.
