Ever walked into a gym and thought…

“Where do I even start?”

Which machine?
What weight?
Am I doing this properly?

These are questions we hear regularly at Elite Fitness.

The seven movement patterns in this video give us a framework for building your programme.

But you don’t need to perform the same exercises as your coach.

You need exercises that suit YOU.

Your starting point. Your strength. Your confidence.

We coach plenty of men who are starting from scratch or returning after years away.

We choose movements they can manage, teach them how to perform them and gradually build from there.

You don’t need to arrive fit.
You don’t need to know your way around a gym.

That’s what we’re here to help with.

In our private Abu Dhabi gym, you’ll train with a coach and a maximum of four clients per session.

You’ll know what to do, how to do it and what you’re working towards.

So you can leave thinking:

“I can do this.”

Want to lose weight, build strength and feel comfortable in the gym again?

DM us “START” to arrange your 60-minute Elite Consultation.

It takes less time than you think.

It’s also less complicated than you believe.

If you’re trying to BUILD your body after 40, you need to focus on quality—not quantity.

You need intensity—not endless duration.

You don’t need two-hour workouts.

You don’t need 12 different exercises.

And you definitely don’t need to destroy yourself six days a week.

You need:

• 3–4 structured workouts per week
• 5–6 well-chosen exercises
• Proper technique
• Progressive overload
• Enough intensity to challenge the muscle
• Enough recovery to let it grow

At Elite Fitness, most of our clients are finished in 45 minutes.

They train hard.
They train with purpose.
Then they get out of the gym and get on with their lives.

More exercise doesn’t automatically mean more results.

After 40, the goal isn’t to see how much punishment your body can tolerate.

The goal is to get stronger, build muscle and stay consistent—without your training taking over your life.

Trust me when I say:

Less is more.

But only when the “less” is done properly.

If you’re a man over 40 in Abu Dhabi and want a structured, time-efficient training plan, send me the word ELITE.

James, I’d tighten it without cleaning it up too much. The rawness is what makes this work.

Are you speeding towards health problems?

I had a tough conversation with a new client last night.

52 years old.

His health and fitness are a complete shambles.

4 major health issues after 7 years of neglecting himself.

He said something that stuck with me:

“I wish I’d pulled the handbrake quicker, coach.”

I speak to hundreds of men in their 40s and 50s every year.

And I hear versions of the same story again and again.

Business comes first.

Family comes first.

Work gets busier.

Training disappears.

Food gets worse.

Alcohol creeps up.

And there’s always “no time” to invest in your health.

Then the waistline starts creeping up.

The blood work starts going haywire.

Then the blood pressure.

Then you’re pre-diabetic.

Then the medications start piling up. 💊

And suddenly you’re 52 wishing you’d done something at 42.

You don’t need to wait until your health is fu**ed before you change direction.

Sometimes you just need to pull the handbrake.

And the earlier you pull it, the easier it is to turn things around.

CONSISTENCY BEATS COMPLEXITY.

When Covid hit, we were forced to rethink the way we programmed training at Elite Fitness.

And looking back, it was one of the best changes we ever made.

Before that, like a lot of coaches, we probably made training more complicated than it needed to be.

More exercises.
More variation.
Longer sessions.
More time in the gym.

So we stripped it back.

We shortened our sessions.

Reduced unnecessary exercise variation.

Focused on the fundamental movement patterns.

And concentrated on doing fewer things really well.

The result?

45 minutes. And done.

Less time in the gym.

More focused training.

More effective sessions.

And, most importantly, better results.

Our clients love it because most of them have jobs, businesses, families and responsibilities outside the gym.

They don’t want to spend 90 minutes training.

And they shouldn’t need to.

Five years later, we’ve never gone back.

And the latest ACSM resistance-training position stand reinforces much of what we’ve seen practically with our own clients:

Training doesn’t need to be complicated to be effective.

The programme needs to be appropriate.

It needs to progress.

And you need to do it consistently.

That’s the philosophy behind how we train at Elite Fitness today.

45 minutes. Better results. Less time in the gym.

Sometimes making a programme better isn’t about adding more.

It’s about knowing what to take away.

🇦🇪 9 years. Over 5,000 Emirati clients coached.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned has nothing to do with training.

It’s about culture.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 I grew up in Scotland, where our biggest social health challenge has always been alcohol.

Overconsumption has contributed to poor health for decades.

Living in the UAE has taught me that the challenge here is different.

Food is at the heart of family life, hospitality, celebrations and weekends. It’s one of the things I admire most about Emirati culture.

But when amazing food is always available, and saying “no” feels socially difficult, maintaining a healthy weight becomes much harder.

The numbers reflect this.

Around two-thirds of adults in the UAE are living with overweight or obesity, and around one in five adults has diabetes.

This isn’t a willpower problem.

It’s a cultural challenge.

At Elite Fitness, our job isn’t just to coach exercise. We educate our clients about the health risks of excess body fat and help them develop practical strategies to enjoy family meals while staying in control.

I completely understand how difficult it is to say no when your mother has spent hours preparing a special meal for the family.

Our goal isn’t to stop people enjoying those moments—it’s to help them enjoy them without sacrificing their health.

Sometimes that also means educating parents and grandparents. They cared just as much about their family’s health as we do today—they simply didn’t have access to the nutrition knowledge we have now.

After 9 years, one thing is clear:

The people who succeed aren’t those with the strongest willpower. They’re the ones who learn how to balance their culture with their health.

Thank you to every client who has trusted us over the last nine years.

Here’s to many more. ❤️

This trims about 20–25% while keeping the message intact:

For years, fasted cardio was promoted as the secret weapon for fat loss.

The reality is a little less exciting.

I’ve personally done fasted cardio for the last 5 years. I enjoy getting up early, getting some movement in before the day starts, and it fits my lifestyle.

But here’s the problem…

Most of the clients I coach at Elite Fitness are busy professionals, parents and business owners.

Getting up at 5am to walk, run or cycle before work is often a bigger challenge than the cardio itself.

The good news?

Research consistently shows that fasted cardio is not superior for fat loss when calories and protein are controlled.

So if early morning fasted cardio works for you, great.

If it doesn’t, don’t worry about it.

Do your cardio after work.

Do it at lunchtime.

Do it when the kids are in bed.

Do it whenever you can do it consistently.

After coaching thousands of clients over the last 15 years, I’ve found that fat loss almost always comes down to two things:

1️⃣ Reducing overall food intake

2️⃣ Increasing overall daily movement

Those two factors will have a far bigger impact on your results than whether your cardio is done fasted or fed.

Focus on the big rocks.

Not the small pebbles.
