Avengers Cricket Club - Abu Dhabi

Last game of the season and a farewell to one of our founding members of the Club - Ali Saleem. Ali, you have been a fantastic member and always there when we needed you. You will be missed!!!

Avengers vs Black Caps – Volcano Cricket Ground – 11 September 2021
The Avengers and Black Caps met for a second friendly game at Volcano Cricket Ground. Avengers won the toss and like the previous week chose to bat first. Wickets fell at regular intervals which prevented the innings from gathering momentum. Avengers managed 134 before being bowled out with 2 balls to spare in the final over. Ashraf Ali top-scored with a run-a-ball 26 – Sohail Ahmed made a very handy 22 – Hanu and Atif contributed 18 and 15 respectively.
Black Caps made a steady start and built on this through the course of their innings managing to chase down the score for the loss of 3 wickets in the 18th over with Hanu, Angad and Ali picking up a wicket apiece.

The Avengers dusted off the cobwebs for a friendly fixture against Black Caps CC in preparation for the 2021-22 season.

The lack of match practice was immediately evident with the Avengers slipping to 32 for 4 in 5 overs after winning the toss and opting to bat first.

The inning was anchored by Nabeel Masood who built a couple of solid partnerships to recover to 99 for 6 in 15 overs scoring 37 in the process. The Avengers finished with 130 all out with 1 ball to spare in the 20th over. Vaseem was the pick of the bowlers for Black Caps - picking up 4 wickets in his quota of 4 overs.

The Black Caps got off to a strong start, but Talha Malik broke through with the first of his three wickets in the 4th over. The introduction of spin into the attack turned the tide in favor of the Avengers - Abdul Aziz and Mohammad Qasim both caught the Black Caps batting line up off guard with their rip-snorting leg-breaks kicking and spitting off the pitch. Both picked up 2 wickets a piece. The Avengers' bowling attack kept picking up wickets at vital times while keeping the scoring rate in check.

The Black Caps were all out for 114 in the 19th over - falling short by 16 runs.

Avengers Cricket Club will participate in the next edition of the Dubai Super League Cricket!!
