The June Windmill League saw an impressive 20 pairs take part in a 2 Player Texas Scramble played over the Back 9 under the lights.

Scoring was extremely tight with 5 pairs fighting it out for the last two prizes available. Jeev Gill and Lera Grant came out on top by a single point as they scored 22 points for the round, they piped the pairing of Dave Steel and Kenny King by a single point as they posted 21 points. Dave and Kenny took 2 place from Harry Gill and Alain Theoret via countback as they also posted the same score of 21 points.

Amir Al Barki and Ann Kritzinger came out on top of a mammoth countback to claim 4” place with 20 points, they edged out the pair of Johan Potgieter and Mike Galvin who returned the same score but settled for 5” place.

Jeev Gill won the Windmill Nearest the Pin on Hole 17, while Tara King won the other Special Event on offer for Nearest the Pin on Hole 15.

42 participants endured the searing heat during yesterday’s June Monthly Medal, enhancing to the challenge of the 18-Hole Individual Strokeplay format. Despite the conditions, five players managed to finish with a net under par Net scores.

Best Gross Score: Min Oh Seo's steady play earned him the Best Gross prize of the day with a total of 1 over par 36 gross over both nines. Notable highlights included five pars and a birdie three on hole 6 at the front nine, and four pars with two birdies which he got on holes 10 and 13 for the back nine.

Division A: FC Holdt claimed first place on countback with front and back nine net of 35 and 33, complimented by ten pars and two birdies. Fazli Khaliq secured second spot with net scores of 32 and 36 across both nines, featuring seven pars and four birdies. Both players finished with the same 68 net total. Allan Keddie claimed third place with a net total of 69, aided by seven pars and a birdie on holes 12 and 14. His front and back nine nets were 36 and 33, respectively.

Division B: Konstantin Varga began with a 37 net on the front nine, marked by three pars. He then continued his strong play on the back nine, achieving a 33 net with five pars and a birdie two on hole 15 with a total score of 70 net, securing him the first place position. With a 71 net total, which included seven pars and a front and back nine net of 37 and 34, Scott Hambleton finished in second place. Tara King's net scores of 38 and 34, including six pars and a birdie on hole 4, earned her third place through a countback method. This placed her ahead of Ralph Gill, who achieved the same total net of 72 with 37-35 net on his two nines.

Division C: Ann Kritzinger claimed first place with front and back nine net scores of 32 and 33, respectively. Her round included three pars, leading to an impressive 5-under par net total. Nathan Hunt took second place with a total net score of 68, achieving pars on holes 1, 8, and 15, and recording net scores of 32 and 36. Shoaib Farooqui clinched the final spot with a total net score of 71, comprising a front nine of 34 and a back nine of 37. His round included pars on holes 4, 7, and 17.

The winners of the Special Event were: Jeev Gill for the Nearest the Pin on Hole 3 in Division A; Syed Jawad Khalid for the Nearest the Pin in 2 on Hole 14 in Division B; and Shoaib Farooqui for the Nearest the Pin in 3 on Hole 7 in Division C.

Two’s winners were: Dave Steel, Min Oh Seo, Thabo Moate, Fazli Khaliq (2), Konstantin Varga, Jeev Gill, FC Holdt, and Peter Abbott.

34 Players competed in today’s May Handicap Day which saw all players compete in an 18 Hole Individual Stableford format, little breeze meant for hot temperatures throughout the morning and afternoon, this also resulted in hot scoring with 12 scores under par and six rounds hitting the 40+ point mark, one of those was Myung Jae Park who took top spot in Division C with a superb 46 points, she raced to the turn with 24 points and added a Back 9 22 points to complete her round. Runners Up spot went to Taeg Lim who was 3 points further back on 43, Taeg had a sensational 25 points for the front 9 and put 18 points on the Back 9 for his total. Yun Hae Hurh completed the prize positions as she posted 39 points, two solid nines of 21 and 18 points secured third place.

In Division A, Staurt Bell continued his return to form with an excellent 41 points, Stuart got to the turn in a 3 under 21 points and added 20 on the back to claim victory by a single point over Johan Schoonraad, Johan posting 18 points for the front 9 and added a superb 22 points on the back to take second spot, Johan Potgieter completed the prizes in the division with 37 points, made up of 17 and 21 point front and back nines.

Ralph Gill was the player to beat in Division B as got the turn in level par 18 points, he then caught fire with a 23 point back 9 for 41 points total and victory over Syed Jawad Khalid who posted the same total but made up of nines of 21 and 20 points, this was good enough for a Runners Up finish for Jawad. Kenny King’s 40 points was him take 3rd place, made up of 18 and 22 points.

We had just the two players make two’s who were Tara King and Thomas Love.

24 Pairs competed in the 2024 AESGC Pairs Open that took place this morning, the format saw players compete in a Pairs Betterball Stroke Play on a still, hot morning, this was reflected in the scoring also as 15 of the 24 pairs broke par for their rounds.

Taking the 2024 Pairs Open title was the husband and wife pair of Min Oh Seo and Myung Jae Park who a 34 front nine 34 and added a back nine 30 for a -6, 64 Net and victory by a single stroke over three pairs.

Taking second place was father and son pairing of Jeev and Harry Gill who put together two nines of 33 and 32 for a 65 Net edging out their rivals on a back 6 countback.

Omar Al Shamsi and Shaoib Farooqui took 3rd place, also posting the same scores of 33 and 32 for the same 65 but settled for 3rd place.

The South African pairing of Thabo Moate and Johan Potgieter took 4th place, again with a Net 65 but made up of nines of 30 and 35.

Fazli Khaliq and Syed Jawad Khalid took the Best Gross prize with a solid 71 Gross, they posted and 35 front nine and added a 36 back 9 to post +1.

Will Portugal claimed the Nearest the Pin prizes on both holes 3 and 17, Chris Potgieter won the Straightest Drive prize on Hole 12 and Angel Posrtugal made a superb 2 on Hole 4 to win the Nearest the Pin in 2 prize for that hole.

16 pairs participated in The Windmill League last night which been played in a 2 Player Greensomes Stableford format.

Fazli Khaliq and Maheen Shafqat tandem 15 points on the last six holes paved the way for them in clinching the top spot leading with two points via countback over the second placer team Andre Kritzinger and Lera Grant who had 13 points on the same final holes, both teams finish with the same 21 points total. Chris Potgieter and Carolyn Bavister team followed in third place with 20 points and the final spot was taken by the team of Stuart Bell and Dave Steel after scoring 13 points on the last six holes over the team of Ronald Khokar and Iain Brown with 12 points and the team Syed Jawad Khalid and Tara King with 11 points on the same final holes, with the three teams completed with a total of 19 points

Our Windmill Nearest the Pin winner on Hole 17 was Thabo Moate, while Wayne O Mahony won Nearest the Pin on Hole 13.

Out of the 43 players who competed in the May Monthly Medal, seven players finished with under par net scores. Leading the field was Myung Jae Park, who earned the day's best score of 4-under par 66 net total.

Division C: Myung Jae Park got off to a solid start, carding an impressive 3-under par 32 net on the front nine, highlighted by a par on Hole 4. She maintained her momentum on the back nine, shooting a 34 net with pars on 13 and 16, securing the lead with a superb total net score of 66. Herbert Locke's back to back pars on holes 14 and 15, helping him clinch second place. His strong finish included a 22 net on the last six holes, putting him one stroke ahead of Melanie Sheldon, who finished third with a net score of 23 on the same final stretch. Both Herbert and Melanie ending the round with identical total net scores of 71 and matching 35 nets on the back nine.

Division A: Kenny King made a solid performance, scoring five pars from holes 4 through 8 for 35 net on the front nine. He maintained his pace on the back nine, recording a 32 net with a total of seven pars. This allowed him to clinch the top spot with 3-under par 67 net total. Kamran Ajmal's produced a total of 14 pars throughout the round. His score of 21 net on the last six propelled him in second place via countback over Fazli Khaliq, who recorded 12 pars with a 22 net on the same final holes. Both players finished with 69 net total with the same 35 net on their back nine.

Division B: Since two players submitted cards with the same 68 net total, a countback was necessary to determine their final places. Omar Al Shamsi secured first place with a pair of 34 nets, scoring seven pars throughout the round. Will Portugal claim the second position after finishing with front and back nine nets of 33 and 35, respectively, and a total of eight pars. Harry Gill posted seven pars on his front and back nine net of 31 and 38 that led to his third place finish with 69 net total.

Best Gross Score: Jeev Gill recorded a pair of 36 on both the front and back nine. His round began with a birdie on the first hole, setting a tone for the rest of his game. Jeev’s momentum remained strong, adding two more birdies on holes four and seven, complemented by three pars on the front nine and replicated the same number of pars and birdies on the back nine. He concluded the round with gross score of 72, claiming the best gross score prize for the day.

The winners of the Special Event awards were: Fc Holdt for the Nearest the Pin in 2 on Hole 12 in Division A; Alex Filed for the Nearest the Pin on Hole 8 in Division B; and Ann Kritzinger for the Straightest Drive on Hole 5 in Division C. Two’s winners were: Rob Rudling, Min Oh Seo and Jeev Gill

The penultimate round of our Brighton College Al Ain Academy Series took place on the 9th May, 16 juniors competed over one overall division rather than two divisions that split the players into age categories of over 10 and a division for our Juniors 10 years old and younger.

The Overall Net winner was James McHugh who was the player to beat as he posted an amazing Gross score of 33 less a handicap of 8 for a Net 25 and victory by just 2 shots. Louis Keddie took second place with a superb Gross of 31 playing off of a handicap of 4 for a Net 27. In third place was Kai Sheldon who posted a gross score of 36 less a handicap of 8 for a Net 28. Fourth place went to Lee-Ane Burger who played her 1st tournament ever and managed to score a gross of 41 less her handicap of 12 for a net 29.

Ralph Gill took the overall Best Gross with a great score of level par 27 which included two birdies and five Pars.

In the Special Events, The nearest to the pin on Hole 5 went to Dayna Fourie while the nearest to the pin on Hole 8 went to Louis Keddie.

A special mention to Lee-Ane Burger who on her 2nd hole in her first ever tournament hit the perfect shot and had a hole in one on Hole 9!

The 2024 AESGC Brighton College Club Championship took place over this past weekend with 36 men and 6 ladies, each looking to be crowned the Champion for 2024. The event was rescheduled from its original date in March which meant players had to contend with scorching May temperatures along with testing, superbly presented golf course over a 36-hole individual stroke play format.

Men’s Gross Category: Nic Poisat secured the 2024 Men’s Club Championship as he added a second round, two under par 68 to his Day one, Gross 71. After Day 1, Nic and Jeev Gill were tied at the top of the leaderboard, each posting scores of 71 gross. However, Nic's 2-under par 68 in the second round put him clear of Jeev in second with a total gross of 139. Jeev Gill's outstanding performance throughout the tournament earned him the 2nd Best Gross prize, finishing with a total gross of 142. Jeev’s steady play was evident with scores of 71 gross in both Round 1 and 2. Wayne O’Mahony clinched the third place with a total gross of 148, which included rounds of 72 and 76 gross over the two days’ round.

Men’s Net Category: Zachary Hambleton claimed the Overall Best Men’s Net by posting net scores of 68 in both rounds, he claimed the top prize on a countback victory over second-place finisher Min Oh Seo, who recorded net scores of 67 and 69 in the first and second rounds respectively, both players recorded a total net score of 136. Ralph Gill scored a net 72 in round one, followed by an impressive 4-under par net 66 in round two, claiming third place with a total net of 138.

Men’s Div A Net Category: Stuart Bell secured the top position with a total net score of 139, shooting 66 on the first day and 73 on the second. Russell Stanley claimed second place with a total net score of 140, posting a pair of Net 70’s in both rounds.
Men’s Div B Net Category: Jack Gleeson secured first place through a countback, edging out Will Portugal who claimed second position. Both players finished with same total net scores of 143, posting 71 on the first round and 72 on the second.

Ladies Gross Category: Tara King successfully defended her title as the Ladies Club Champion, finishing with a 36-hole total of 164. Tara posted a Day 1 Gross 78, made up of two consistent nines of 39. Tara added a second round 86 for a 36 hole total of 164 and a second successive Club Championship Title. Melanie Sheldon secured second place with a total of 193 over two rounds, posting scores of 96 and 97 in each round, respectively.

Ladies Net Category: Ann Kritzinger claimed victory in the Ladies Net category with a total score of 131 by posting a scores of 68 and a superb second round 63. Myung Jae Park took second place with a total net score of 142, posting 71 net on each round.

Special Events: Dave Steel won the Men’s Nearest the Pin on Hole 8 on Day 1, while Carel Nolte took it on Hole 17. On Day 2, Stuart Bell claimed the Men’s Nearest the Pin on Hole 3, and Min Oh won the Special Event on Hole 13. Tara King took the Ladies Nearest the Pin on both days, winning on Holes 15 and 17.

Jonathan Selvaraj (EGF) produced two solid days of golf in testing conditions to take the 2024 AESGC Men’s Open by posting an impressive total of 135. Jonathan produced 4 birdies and an eagle against four dropped shots in his Day 1, two under par 68, His second round saw him post 5 birdies and just a double bogey on the negative side for his, three under 67 as he took victory by four strokes.

Best Gross: Mikhail Pinto (DCGYC) delivered consistent golf on both days, carding impressive scores of 70 and 69 gross. This was enough to earn him the second-best gross score prize for the weekend, Hoshi Yadav (TIGC), who also recorded scores of 70 and 69 gross, but had to settle for 3rd place as Mikail had a better final round back nine as both players ended with the same total net score of 139.

Overall Net Winner: Jose Garcia San Juan from Los Lagos took the Overall Net prize as he produced excellent net scores of 66 and 67 to finish with a total net score of 133. Syed Jawad Khalid, (AESGC), posted net scores of 68 and 66 for a total of 134, his excellent effort earning him the second-best net score. Kamar Ajmal of the AESGC secured the third-best net position with a total of 135 which was made up of two round scores of 69 and 66.

Division A Net, Min Oh Seo (AESGC) claimed the top spot with a total net score of 138, achieved through net scores of 67 and 71 over the two days. Following closely behind was FC Holdt, also from AESGC, who secured second place with net scores of 71 and 68, resulting in a total net of 139.
Division B Net winner: Mark Vowles of EGF clinched the Division B Net prize with net scores of 74 and 70, totalling 144, while Thabo Moate from AESGC secured second place with net scores of 76 and 70, resulting in a total of 146.

Division A - Special Events///a6 were awarded as follows: Nasser Yaqoob from Bahrain Golf Club claimed the Nearest the Pin prize on Hole 8, Andrew Smolak (SBGC) secured the Longest Drive prize on Hole 9, Fazli Khaliq (AESGC) won the Nearest the Pin prize on Hole 3, and Hoshi Yadav (TIGC) achieved the Longest Drive prize on Hole 10.

Division B – Special Events Steven Jessop (AESGC) for Nearest the Pin on Hole 17, Syed Jawad Khalid (AESGC), for Longest Drive on Hole 5, Thabo Moate (AESGC) for Nearest the Pin on Hole 13, and Mohamed Alhadi (EGF) for Longest Drive on Hole 16.
