Not every strange feeling means something is wrong.

Marcus reflects on a recent ride in the heat and the discomfort that came with it. A reminder that feeling uncomfortable isn’t always something we need to avoid.
Sometimes, it’s something we need to learn from.

DNF. Three letters nobody wants next to their name.
You trained for months. You travelled. You sacrificed. You showed up to finish.
So when things start going wrong, stopping can feel impossible.

That’s where honesty comes in.
Know your warning signs. Have a DNF plan before you race. And don’t let how much you’ve already invested make the decision for you.

Sometimes you keep going. Sometimes you stop.
Knowing the difference is part of becoming a better athlete.
Coach Rob J goes deeper into the psychology of a DNF in his latest article.

Put A Date On It

We all have the thing we will do "at some point".
It’s cool. Make sure you have one or two.

The marathon, the ride, the weight, the trip. It has sat in the maybe pile for years and it is very comfortable there.

What about you rip the band aid off?
Say yes today. Enter the race, book the trip, throw out the cookies.
No more of the old BS “I am training to be ready to start the gym”.
Remember anchors do not exist to keep you still. They exist so you can go somewhere on purpose.
Our InnerFight anchors have taken people through marathons, ultras, career changes and worse.

Pick your date.
Then come and borrow our anchors.

You don’t always need a big solution. Sometimes you just need to notice the pattern, then do something about it.

Marcus noticed something he wasn’t happy with and made an adjustment. That same question can apply to training, work, sleep, relationships or how you spend your time.

The goal has never been to make training easier. The goal is to build people who can handle more.

More weight.
More pressure.
More challenges.
More of whatever life throws at them.

That's what happens when you show up consistently, trust the process, and do the work alongside people who expect your best.

Because stronger humans are better at life.

Who are you actually doing it for?

Tom’s been thinking about the difference between external motivation and the motivation that comes from within.
The reps, the pace, the workout, trying your hardest. All of it matters, but it’s worth asking yourself who you’re actually doing it for.
If the answer comes back to you, you’re probably on the right lines.

This is the final part of our conversation with Marcus.

In today’s article, Marcus revisits Greg Glassman’s “Fitness in 100 Words” and asks a simple question: after more than two decades of coaching, what still holds up?

A lot of it does. Some of it doesn’t. And that raises a bigger question: what should change, and what should never change?

Fun Is Not Optional

We treat fun as a reward for the work. It is not.
It is the thing that makes the work repeatable for years instead of weeks.

Go and watch the endurance team at the track on a Tuesday, 5:59am.
In winter it is cold and dark, in summer hot and humid, the work is hard, the people are enjoying it.
That is why they are still there a decade later.

The reality is, training alone is rarely a discipline problem.
It is a fun problem.
Very few people enjoy it for long, which is exactly why very few people keep it up.

If your training feels like punishment or a “have to do,” you have either chosen wrong or you are doing it on your own.

One of those is very easy to fix.

No Weakness,
Marcus Smith
