Do you know about the Sisyphus experiment?
Linking work, money, and exhaustion.

2 groups of Harvard students got :
- Bionicle legos
- Detailed instructions to build them
- A degressive reward scheme. They got paid less and less for each unit.

The measure ➡The number of units the students would build before deciding the effort is no longer worth the money.

The difference between the 2 groups?

- Group A would finish their piece, the experimenter would give them the money and display their work next to the previous finished ones,

- Group B would finish their piece, the experimenter would give them the money and...distroy their piece in front of them.

Results (can you guess?)😉:

Group A stopped after 11 pieces, Group B after 6.
They quit halfway despite the money seeing the meaningless of their work.

❌It’s not all about the money.

❌The feeling of exhaustion, of “ is it worth it?” cannot go away only by increasing the money.

✅It takes meaning and recognition.
✅To retain talents, to choose a job.

And…I can't help thinking about my son making Bionicles:)

He doesn't display them.
He plays with them till they break into pieces. And he starts again...

Not for money, nor meaning:)
For the challenge. For the PLAY.🧒

So,
Play as a strategy for work, can it work?🙄🙃😉

What do you think?

Have you seen this picture before? Do you know where this is?

This is the desert of Namibia last year. Lilies.
Miles and miles of lilies blossoming in the desert... for the first time in 3 years.

3 years during which the bulbs resisted buried underground in the arid sand.

When the good rain came they sprout out, blossoming.

I find this beautiful🤩🤩. Don't you?

And I wonder...what is it in me that finds this beautiful?

And my rationalising mind starts making connections:

➡ Is it about the vastness of the vision of these lilies?
According to science👩‍🔬, looking at something bigger than us, triggers our brain to experience Awe.
(Want to test it? Look up at the sky and tune into the feeling😉)

➡ Is it about the deep wisdom that applies to life, to its seasonality, to its cycles💫?

➡ Is it about resilience?
Sometimes we plant a seed and we get frustrated, it's taking too long. Is this even working?

And we may even uncover the soil to check on the seed, delaying its blossoming. 🌱🌱🌱

What if we choose to trust the process and focus on what we can control...?

I don't know what it is about🤗

What I know is that:
- thinking about the picture and the story fill me with joy and strength.
And that...is more than enough:)

How do you see it?

What do you think?

It was one 1st of April when we got the announcement. We knew it, we expected it and yet, it was a shock.💥

We ➡1000's of employees across 15+countries.

Announcement ➡ the company's exiting the region, maintaining its brand presence through a licensee.

That day, I was the in a business trip in Morocco.
We were told that for us it would be business as usual.
We'd transfer to the new company, still marketing and developing the same brand, the same products,
as if nothing changed.

Yet, something big changed.
I was living as an expat in South Africa, aspiring to a further international career. Now I’d be confined to one region, a smaller pond.

And then I thought-
I was a small fish in a big pond, now I’d be a big fish in this smaller pond. 🐟🐟
More exposure, more accountability, more impact.💪

And that’s how I used to recall the experience.

Yet, the other day, I was telling the story and it occurred to me: I was wrong!

I wasn’t a small fish that suddenly became big-
The fish, had the same size, whether in this pond or the bigger one.
Yet that distorted image allowed me to be bolder, stronger, to take risks and grow further.

Now as an entrepreneur, my pond is limitless.
Does that mean I'm a tiny fish? No.

You see… it’s never the pond, it's always the perspective.

Thoughts?

Did you do this too?🤔
💨You'd have a problem; you feel like turning on circles. And...
you insist on doing it all by yourself?💪💪

🙋‍♀️I did- And I’ll let you into the formula that used to run in my head:

Asking for help = I can’t do it + Someone else can do it

= I’m not good enough + other people will know that

➡ I need to struggle on my own till I do it.

And you know what?
The more important the problem was (for me),
the more I insisted on doing it by myself.

And while this is not very smart, I tried to rationalise it. 🙄🙄
Any combination of the following would do it for me:

1️⃣ I don’t want people to find out that I can’t!

2️⃣ What if I can't make it even with the help. No excuses then!

3️⃣ To deserve to get the result, I need to suffer and work hard.
Do you recognize any of these?

And then I started asking:

❓Who said that?
❓What if it’s not true?
❓So what?

So when I catch myself wanting to do it all by myself, I check:
- Is it worth my time and energy?
- Is there another way to get there faster?

Now, my new formula is:

💥Asking for help= Strenght + Efficiency💥

Which allows me to choose the right people that can help!

What’s your formula?
What does “asking for help” mean for you?

And it's "help" not " support" nor "guidance"...on purpose😉 Let's say it the way it is!

I wonder what you'll make out of this?😉

I want to tell you about “the Innsbruck goggles experiment” do you know about it?

It started in November 1946.
An Austrian scientist Ivo Kholer took on to wear the” Innsbruck goggles” 😎
while a team of scientists measured his adaptation performance. 🧐
To what?
To an upside-down world!

These goggles flipped his vision. Top becomes bottom and bottom top.🔄🔄🔄

Can you imagine this? How challenging would that be?

🙃 Walking (sensing your feet down while seeing them up!),
🙃Climbing stairs ( while you see yourself descending them).
I feel confused just thinking about it!

How long would it take you to accommodate such a change?
Are you even designed to do so?

Kholer was disorientated, every task became a struggle.
- He had to let go of his automatisms and to become more aware where things are.
- He had to readjust his gestures and find new ways to coordinate his movements.

It doesn’t sound easy, does it?

➡After 10 days, he was able to walk in a crowded street, and check this! Ride a bike.🚲

10 days to function is a completely upside-down world-

To be precise... the world didn't change, if you look at it closely, only his perception of it did. 😉

So I’m curious, what do you make out of this?

Let me know⬇⬇⬇

Have you ever played with waves in the sea?🌊🌊🌊

I remember when I was 8/9 years old we went to the beach every afternoon.

I'd wait for my dad to come from work, have his nap, and then we head to the beach.

On our way there, we'd watch for the wind, are we in for a rough or a calm sea?

And I'd always, always look for the waves.

Because you see, swimming is fun, but a sea without waves? Boring...

Whether you did this too or you watched kids doing it, have you noticed? How do we handle waves?

💦We stand up looking for the next upcoming wave, we see it and we assess it.

💦Can we get above it? or is it too rough?

💦Then we dive and let it pass above, right?

💦We come up from the other side, dizzy, with burning eyes, and before you know it the next one is coming and the fun goes on.🥳🥳

We don’t control the sea, we don’t control the waves.
But we know that waves will come,
that’s the nature of the sea...of LIFE.

And we have the choice: ride them or dig down and let them pass.
Or... stand still and let them hit us, that’s also... a choice.🤗

Whatever happens, what you do or what you don’t do, is always your choice.

And if you don't know how to swim, it's also your choice to learn that or not- best to do it while the sea is calm though:)

So, what do you prefer a calm or a rough sea?
How do you handle the waves? In the sea... or the ones in your life?

PS: If the sea of your life is too rough right now , go check my free audio in the bio and get some of your peace of mind 🏊‍♀️🏄‍♀️
