Part II – The Sleeping Face

I turned my back to the blue coat and entered the room.

I did not date to see her face, my eyes looked at wires and tubes. My eyes were searching the monitor, begging for a pulse.

And then… I saw her face.

Sleeping like a child after a long, exhausting days.

Peaceful.

So peaceful it felt unfair.

For days she had been fighting for air to catch a peaceful breath. And now she is resting, free from struggle, free even from the need for oxygen.

I touched her fingers gently and whispered inside my chest, “Mother… I’m here.... Don’t worry!"

She is taking a path alone, and for the first time in my life, I was not walking behind her.....

For the first time I felt I failed her!
