Hey Frisbee Family, happy September! Happy Islamic new year and happy 'I-Can't-Believe-It's-Not-A-Public-Holi'day
It's back to school time for all you parents - and back to the working grind for all of us. While we're all still winding down from the Summer highs and experiencing the vacation blues - thought you'd all like an update about what's happening currently with ULS in general.

Summer Indoor PickUps @ Dubai Sports World
There are two more weeks left in the Summer Indoor Sessions, September 3rd and September 10th - until they close down Dubai Sports World until next summer.
Ultimate Blitz-bee takes place at 8-9PM.
I've tried booking an extra field with the expected flux of returning vacationers, but DSW has been fully booked for our time slot so I've opted for upgrading to the bigger field for this week only (September 3rd). We'll be on Field 1 this week! (Price will still be at AED 20, so the more the merrier!)

Beach Pick Up @ Black Palace Beach
While the heat of summer is still too hot, we've already passed the high point and can expect cooler and better weather from here on out. We'll always have Beach Pick Up every Saturday at Black Palace beach from 5PM to 'Where-The-Sun-Go?'
It's tougher on the legs but it's great conditioning and fun overall!
Not to mention its' a great way to end the weekend on a good note with friends, frizz, cool water (not yet) and sunset.
So if you're not doing anything on Saturday, or if you are - do grab a towel, water and some friends so we can start the week off just right.
Also, who knows? There might be a beach tournament soon. So why not get prepared?

Andre's hosting a 4on4 Indoor Hat Tourney for his birthday, so if you can, sign up fast since space is limited! Going to the event doesn't guarantee you a spot. You still need to signup! You still need to fill out the google doc below!

MENA 2019
We were very fortunate to host last year's MENA Ultimate Club Championships over at our Dubai Rugby 7s field. This year the tournament will be in Egypt in November 15th/16th.
We're expecting to see some of UAE's best battle it out to claim the title as the best of the MENA region.
If you're interested in participating, check with some of the local club teams and let them know. There's exactly 75 days before the tournament starts so you better start committing and training!

WASTA - Manila Spirits
For those of us who won't be able to make it all the way to Egypt, such as me - WASTA will be in the Philippines for one of Asia's biggest tournaments. We were very fortunate to have our place secured and there are a few who've already stepped up and started planning to join - the only unfortunate downside is that they fall on the same day as MENA - November 16th/17th.
Currently, the line up consists mostly of previous Wasta team members, and they're looking for a few more females to finalize their roster. Send me a message if you want more details

WFDF 2020 Worlds Ultimate and Guts Championship
World Championships are being held in the Netherlands next July. I'm just noting that there is interest to send a mixed team to represent the UAE there. Stay tuned for updates in this chat.

ULS League
A lot of people have been asking me what's happening with ULS league this season. I've already answered a few people individually but thought it would be better to address it here so everyone's aware of what's happening.
As you all know, for the past few years we've been fortunate to use the fields over at ASD. For this year there's been a change of management and an even larger change in their pricing structure, much more than what we were expecting. So we've come to the decision to look elsewhere to establish a new home for the league.
We've been asking around different schools and are still waiting to hear back from some of them while we finalize our decisions. If all goes according to plan, we're looking to start the league before the end of the month.
If any of you know any contacts for sport facility rentals that might be a good fit, feel free to slide into my DM's and let me know who to get in touch with.

Zabeel Park Update
So for those who haven't heard yet. There has been an issue over the summer with Zabeel Parks' management in regards to the use of their fields. They have noted that the parks fields were not designed with the intention of sports in mind and have asked various sports groups to stop playing there.
Currently there is an issue with the management wanting a sports permit, but are also not issuing any new ones.
It's a confusing time now and is still unclear how this will develop in the next few months. Currently there are a few groups that still use the fields during the weeks, so we'll see how this continues.

Quick Shoutout to Arabian Fittrekkers
I just want to take an opportunity to highlight a group that have been particularly under the radar in the frisbee community.
The lovely folks over at Arabian Fittrekkers have introduced some amazing players over the past year in pickups, league and have left a very impressive mark in the community.
A group dedicated to fitness, hiking, trekking whose purpose is to stay motivated by hosting fun activities. One of those activities happens to be holding their own Frisbee pickup sessions at Zabeel Park on Thursdays.
Almost all the members of AFT Ultimate started knowing nothing about the sport, but now have a squad capable of standing on their own.

General notes to the Frisbee Community
As you know, finding other players who enjoy Ultimate and are passionate about it is always a lovely treat.
Unfortunately, given the nature of Dubai - we're a very transient city and the people we become close with always change. Great players come and great players go. We hate to say goodbye to the many people who are leaving us this year, we only wish them the best and hopefully wish we will come across them in the future - preferably with a plastic disc.
But this is also an opportunity, while we say goodbye to those that leave, we can say hello and welcome those that come.
We owe it to ourselves to make the best of our situation and try to grow this community as much as possible.
As much as it is fun and games for us, just remember that you're reprenting UAE frisbee as a whole, any interaction you have with others, regardless of sport or club, is a reflection of this lovely community that we got going on. You're all ambassadors, we can't grow this sport or community without your help - so I'd like to thank all of you for making this possible.
