Receiving the Intercontinental Cup trophy from the hands of football legend Diego Armando Maradona is quite a sweet way to get yourself on top of the Beach Soccer world again… And if you do it in such a brilliant fashion as Russia did today, giving Brazil no chance, then the whole thing comes even better. Mikhail Likhachev’s team had targeted this Samsung Beach Soccer Intercontinental Cup Dubai 2012 as their opportunity to ascend to an uncontestable dominant position, after the defeats suffered in the Euro Beach Soccer League and the final of the European Qualifier for the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup2013, and they absolutely accomplished the mission.
The strong pace the defending champions imposed in the beginning of the match got them remarkable dividends. Already in the first period, the tsars had built a 3-0 advantage that had the canarinha on the robes. The tournament’s MVP, Shaykov, completed his second consecutive goal-poker in two days to widen the distance to 5-0 by mid second period. Only the efforts by Fernando DDI kept offering some resistance to such a tyrannical dominion, but his first two goals, which got him awarded as the competition’s top scorer, were far not enough to contest the strength the World Champions were fielding.
In the last minutes of the game, Brazil tried to dress up the score a bit, and Bruno Malias and André fired home for the 7-4. That was the only concession the Russians were to make, and time ran out without giving the Verdeamarela any other real chance to revert the situation. With the final whistle, Likhachev’s side wins all credit back, not only for having conquered this new edition of the Samsung Beach Soccer Intercontinental Cup Dubai, but specially because of the way they have achieved so. Was last summer just a little impasse? Today, it seemed it was, but only time will tell.

After 35 minutes of struggling against Tahiti, one of the hardest teams to bend in the Beach Soccer panorama, the UAE found the key to the victory in their first game in this Samsung Beach Soccer Intercontinental Cup 2012 they are hosting in Dubai. When there was little more than one minute for the final whistle, and with the score tied 2-2, Adil raced to the Tahitian box, and crossed the last ball home to grasp the first points for his side, thus getting in the Russian pursuit for the semifinal stage. Mendes side saw the perfect ending to a game which turned into really difficult yet from the very beginning, as Zaveroni’s opener got the hosts fighting against the current in a very early stage. Ali Karim would equalize the score rather soon, just six minutes afterwards, and the two teams decided then to lean backwards a bit, acknowledging that nothing was to be decided that soon, and saving forces for the final assault. The game was extremely physical, highly demanding, and a little difference could get things definitely unbalanced for either side. Li Fung Kuee tried to push his team closer to the victory, taking advantage of a free kick just a few centimeters away from the penalty kick line, and the Tiki Toa managed after that to keep their goal safe for most of the time. The UAE realized that they could save nothing if they wanted to grasp the points, and poured forward trying to turn things around. One of the local heroes, Rami, finally found the crack in the Tahitian resistance, and raised the 2-2 in the fifth minute of the last leg. Anything could happen in that seconds, but it was Mendes’ side the one looking more decidedly to their opponent’s end. That attitude got them a valuable reward, with the dynamic Adil bagging the winner for his team, and leaving the Oceania champions helpless. The time remaining was not enough for Zaveroni’s lads to get to the Emirati dominions consistently enough, and the points ended up in UAE’s hands, what grants them a good position to attempt for the tournament’s semifinals. Goals: 0-1: Zaveroni, min. 11 (1); 1-1: Ali Karim, min. 4 (1); 1-2: Li Fung Kuee, min. 4 (2); 2-2: Rami, min. 7 (3); Adil, min. 1 (3)

Nigeria was today close to awake the 2011 ghosts for Brazil, bringing them back the memories of the Copa Lagos final. In that match, the green eagles knocked the Verdeamarela down to claim the cup, but, this time, Fernando DDI’s amazing contribution, with three goals in just one minute, granted the points for Guga’s side. It was not an easy payback for the Brazilians, though, as Nigeria never let them too far until DDI’s magical stroke. Indeed, the Africans were the ones to hit first, with Okemmiri’s opener, but Datinha cut the Nigerian rise before it was too late, just two minutes before Mão crashed. The Tetracampeão could not allow the Green Eagles upset them twice, and tried to control the game against the mighty Nigerian team. But Adamu’s side were thinking just on the contrary and, showing no fear of the undoubtedly best team in the history of the sport, fought for the game. That got them equalizing the Brazilian efforts twice, up to Ibenegbu’s 3-3. But there came Fernando DDI to finish all Nigerians options off. In just a few seconds, the all-round player, one of the secrets of the reborn Brazil, struck not once, nor twice, but three times to have his team get hold of the game, this time for good. The final whistle, then, saw Guga’s side bagging the three points, accompanying Switzerland ahead of the table in group B of this Samsung Beach Soccer Intercontinental Cup Dubai 2012. Goal: 0-1: Okemmiri, min. 2 (1); 1-1: Datinha, min. 2 (1); 2-1: Mão, min. 0 (1); 2-2: Tale, min. 4 (2); 3-2: Benjamin, min. 4 (2); 3-3: Ibenegbu, min. 11 (3); 4-3: Fernando DDI, min. 8 (3); 5-3: Fernando DDI, min. 8 (3); 6-3: Fernando DDI, min.7 (3)

Defending champions run over the USA in their first match of this Samsung Beach Soccer Intercontinental Cup 2012, taking place in Dubai Festival city. Likhachev’s team see no other possible conclusion than being in the final of the tournament next November 3rd, and they found a quite consistent way to set it clear. The Americans, who tried to counteract the Russian dominion in the first period, could do nothing else than stomaching goal after goal as of the second. Not even one minute after the kick-off whistle, Egor Shaykov had the World Champions ahead. Seeing yourself down in the score against such a Beach Soccer superpower is a really uncomfortable position, but Oscar Gil tried at least to keep his time standing,… That was not enough to stop the Russian inspiration, though, and Ippolitov got the European ahead once again with a terrific missile straight to McAndrew’s goalmouth. After the break, the evening turned into a real nightmare for Laverde’s team, as Russia switched the “LAUNCH” button on and mercilessly punished their opponent. Goal after goal, the tsars widened the Americans’ wound, to end up clinching the points with a loud 9-1 that gets them leading group A after day one in this Samsung Beach Soccer Intercontinental Cup Dubai 2012. Goals : 1-0 : Shaykov, min. 11 (1) ; 1-1 : Gil, min. 7 (1); 2-1: Eremeev, min. 3 (1); 3-1: Ippolitov, min. 1 (1) ; 4-1 : Eremeev, min. 5 (2) ; 5-1 : Shishin, min. 3 (2); 6-1: Eremeev, min. 10 (3); 7-1: Shishin, min. 6 (3); 8-1: Krasheninnikov, min. 6 (3); 9-1: Krasheninnikov, min. 0 (3)
