What is Roller Derby?
Flat track roller derby is a fast-paced contact team sport that requires speed, strategy, and athleticism. The flat track version of the sport evolved in 2001, and has quickly grown to encompass more than 400 leagues worldwide. The "Do It Yourself" mentality that drives the sport allows roller derby leagues to create their own unique identities and adapt their structures to reflect their local communities. It is our aim to have Dubai Roller Derby reflect the many diverse cultures of the UAE, while respecting local culture. When do you skate? Can I join?
The Dubai Roller Derby league trains regularly on Mondays and Saturdays (with a break during summer) at a sports hall in Al Quoz. People over 21 of all shapes and sizes are welcome to join. Currently, we only have women's teams, but men are always welcome to join as referees, coaches, non-skating officials or other supports.
If you’re new to roller derby, we have New Skater Nights every 2-3 months, which are open to skaters of all skill levels. Experienced skaters with their own gear are welcome to join any of our practices.

I want to join! What gear do I need?
Quad skates, elbow pads, knee pads, wrist guards, a helmet and a mouth guard. If you’re coming to a New Skater Night or just trying it out, you can borrow everything (except the mouthguard) from us.

What do I bring with me?
A good attitude, a bottle of water, skates and your protective gear ( safety is sexy!). Wear comfortable clothes that you can sweat in and don't mind getting dirty. If you only have inline skates (aka roller blades), you're welcome to try it out, coach or referee, but you'll need quad skates to compete as a roller derby team member.

We'd love to hear from you! We're hoping to find sponsors who share our vision of promoting women’s sports. We need everything from venues to gear to printing to uniforms. We are a by- the- players-for-the-players organization, so we collect monthly dues from our members, which we spend on renting skating venues. Sponsorship would really help us out!
