Yes yes yes a million times over.

4 years married to my best friend and I’d say yes again and again.

To the love, the chaos, the growth, and everything in between. I’d choose you every single time ❤️‍🔥

We’ve had such a wild ride these last 7 years since meeting - met in Australia, became expats in Dubai together, engaged in Cappadocia, officially married in Tbilisi, eloped in Iceland, honeymooned across the Rockies in Canada, 2 babies born in the UAE…we’ve been through such ridiculous highs, so so so much fun & sooo much adventuring…and we’ve also been through immense lows having both lost our siblings within a year of each other.

Alex - you are my rock. There’s no other person I would want to do life with. You mean the world to me.

Happy anniversary 💖

🕊️My little sister would’ve been 31 today, but instead of “Happy Birthday!” I keep thinking, “You’ve been gone 5.5 months now.” 🤍

I still have troubles believing she is forever gone - I keep seeing her in random places, seeing things that remind me of her, wishing I could call her, wishing for one last massive hug.

We never got to say goodbye.

I always thought we’d be old hags laughing at all the silly things we fought over, and the stupid things our kids fought about. It’s hard to not think I’m still just an expat and she’s over in Toronto doing her thing. There are just so many things we never got to do, and I cannot believe I do not have my sister around anymore.

But instead of ruminating over all the things we never got to do, I keep trying to hang on to all the things we did together. Enjoying watching sisterhood unfold with my two little girls.

Ash and I grew up alongside each other. We wore the same outfits, same hairstyles, played with the same toys, loved the same TV shows, fought about nothing and everything. We did everything together. I’m grateful for the memories I’m left with, her favourite childhood teddy, & the pictures I can look back on.

I read a lovely quote that has helped me through tough times -

“Grief, I’ve learned, is really just love.
It’s all the love you want to give, but
cannot. All that unspent love
gathers up in the corners of your eyes, the
lump in your throat, and in that
hollow part of your chest.

Grief is just love with no place to go.”
- Jamie Anderson

Hopefully this can also help some of her other friends and family through tough times, and tough days like today, her birthday.

Moving forwards I’ve decided to write a birthday card to Ashley every year, telling her about all the big things that happened the previous year, catching her up on everything. Then maybe one day I can read it to her when I visit her grave.

Happy birthday baby sis, I love you always.

I always find myself reflecting on my previous year on birthdays 🎈🥳🎉

It’s been such an incredible year - from Canada to Cyprus, to training all my clients whilst pregnant, navigating pregnancy with a toddler, having Everly (whom I’m already obsessed with so thankfully my fears of “not loving her as much as Zoey” have already disappeared), now navigating 2’s with a newborn, and our renovations being a week from complete so we can move into our own home…!

When I was a kid I loved the Game of Life…now I’m living it and loving it. Loads of ups, some scattered downs, and navigating it the best I can. Motherhood is definitely *definitely* my most favourite part yet, and I love that I get to journey through it with my best friend & husband 🥹💖🙌🏽

What month did you pop? 🤰

A 9-month wait, again worth every second…& now I have 2 little girls - both born via .

With my first , I thought strength and bonding came through the birth experience. I placed so much pressure on myself to have a “dream birth” because “women are made to birth naturally, v4ginal is “real birth,” c-sections are bad/unnecessary/make you a failure.”

We had an amazing doula (), & an incredible OBGYN (Dr. Dalia). I dreamt of an unmedicated water birth using hypnobirthing techniques.

But - I was one of the lucky 4% women worldwide with a at full term, even after trying an (extremely painful) ECV, spinning babies, breech Webster chiro, stopping all strength training for weeks, breech yoga…effort does not always equal outcome. I had to give myself credit for that effort, rather than boiling it all down to the moment of birth alone. A healthy and safe baby & mom are more important than which body part our baby came out of.

Pregnancy 2 I had - baby was large for gestational age, big belly, etc. Best chance of a was spontaneous labour before 39w.

But I had an the day before my scheduled due to fetal distress (tachycardia from strong contractions causing nonstop vomiting/dehydration).

I’m grateful I didn’t stress too much about birth type this time - I did my research, got loads of opinions, and was going in prepared for another …baby would choose and I didn’t want to again be disappointed by a day that is a small part of my baby’s life…pregnancy + what I do until my kids’ adulthood is far more important than the mode of birth (of which you cannot control, and one is not *better* than the other - you cannot fail at birth!).

It is hard feeling like my choice/experience with a v4ginal birth was taken from me both times, but I want to pass on something to others facing similar situations:

“Your strength and beauty as a woman is not measured by v4ginal births, but by the grace with which you handle all experiences in life” (Caroline Kelley).

Happy birthday, Everly Mia von Moger 💕

Born Monday 27 May 2024 via gentle emergency cesarean at 12:54 pm, at the incredible Mediclinic Parkview Hospital in Dubai, UAE, with Dr. Dalia Sikafi (same OBGYN as Zoey). Evie made her appearance *one day* prior to our planned cesarean (at 38w4d due to fetal distress)! This little gestational diabetes baby came out weighing a whopping 4.04 kg, 52 cm long 💖

It’s been a whirlwind of a week and we are incredibly smitten with her! We can already see that Zoey will be such an incredible big sister 🥰

Pic 3 is our last picture as a family of 3 from last Sunday, without knowing that would be our last!

Pic 7 is Zoey’s face on seeing Everly for the first time. She’s been full of smiles and giggles, wanting to help out and give Evie toys since first meeting 🥹

Evie and I have been stuck in hospital with the bilirubin lamp suntanning her the last 24h as I returned worried about her yellowing colour (jaundice), but Zoey and Alex are on their way to pick us up so we are super excited to return home again!

I’ll share more about my second positive cesarean experience in another post soon - just know that the more informed and the more you can advocate for yourself, the more positive your birth experience has the potential to be, regardless of the mode (vaginal, planned vs unplanned cesarean). 🤍

👯‍♀️ She’s so frickin excited to be a big sister…I get so many questions daily -

“Is this for baby Evie?”
“Is Evie eating that strawberry in your belly now?”
“Are you going to the doctor today and then Evie will come home?”
“We can eat birthday cake on Evie’s birthday?”
“Is Evie almost here?”
“Zoey and Evie will be sisters like Elsa and Anna?”
“Is baby kicking?”
“Will Evie come with us?”

Honestly don’t know who is most excited 🥹

3 weeks to go!

🩷🤰Months 1, 3, 5, 7.5 with Everly von Moger 🤰🩷

🥹“To my second child:
You’re not my first, that much is true.
I loved another before loving you.
I’m a different mother this time around,
more calm and confident I’ve found.

With your sister, everything was new.
I was focused on her every move…
Since you came, there’s a new dimension -
Two children now want my attention…

I know what the next months have in store,
and each phase you reach, I’ve seen before…
This doesn’t mean I love you less,
This time the feelings more complex…

Your ‘firsts’ will all be ‘lasts’ for me -
last crawl and last ride on my knee.
Last nappy, breastfeed, bowl of mush,
last rock-to-sleep, last cry to hush.

You are not my firstborn, this is true -
but the last child I will have is you.
You’re the last lullaby I’ll ever sing,
And ‘lasts’ are a special kind of thing.” -Emma Robinson
