How do gyms get away with undertraining, overworking and underpaying their personal trainers? 26/10/2018

This dark side of the web is interesting. I'm in the mood for some intelligent debate...

A personal trainer or gym owner? then unapologetically answer this.
A member of a gym? share with your friends.
Have a personal trainer? send it to them.

Thank you

How do gyms get away with undertraining, overworking and underpaying their personal trainers? Answer: The personal trainer market is massively oversaturated. It doesn't take too much effort to become one (speaking as a L4 personal trainer/exercise rehabilitation instructor). So gyms have the buyer's market - they can name their price and its low. You quit? No problem, there's plenty more ...

What your gym DOESN'T want you to know 26/10/2018

In my opinion, every active and most importantly in-active members should just SHOWUP on the 2nd January 2019, for a whole week, cause havoc, upset the protected system, create turmoil - to me this is the only way we can break the system and create radical change.

We all know someone who as a gym membership and doesn't utilise it for whatever reason. This isn't the place to point fingers and blame them (which I'll be first to admit being a culprit of in the past...) BUT instead, use it as a rallying cry to get the fitness industry to step up.

We can no longer leave it up to them to figure out.

What your gym DOESN'T want you to know Gym insiders from around the world have opened up about industry secrets on the Q&A site Quora , revealing how many establishments' priority is making money over building muscle.

Bali Triathlon 2018, Part 3, The Run.

I had high hopes for this run. It was a done deal. I'd get a personal best not only in this leg of the Tri but ever for a 5 KM that I've completed.

Well, it didn't happen.

Though I did beat my time last year by a minute. So I ran it in 21.19.

What happened?

I fell into the trap of agreeing with my head that I couldn't do anymore. - what BS is that!

I'm usually poise, cool and calm when I compete but this time it got the better of me.

My calf luckily enough was okay. No cramp.

Heat. Yes it was hot but I had purposely trained later in the morning to climatize myself. So not that.

Probably a combination of running solo, having no one in sight to chase. Wait that's a lie, a guy took over me and left me for dead. I could've chased that fu**er down. BUT my head won! - and not being fit enough overall.

Overall, it turned out to be a big lesson in how to perform in competition. How you must adapt to any situation and dig where you've never digged before. That will be my next test!

In completing this summary of only my 2nd triathlon, coming from a gym ju**ie background I was surprised to learn that my time this year would have placed me 5th overall last year! - that just shows how much the competition ramped up this year...

Till the next event, I'll keep training and pushing the boundaries to see whats possible.

Thank you for such an amazing event. Fitness brings the very best out of people. I hope this inspires those who have never done a Tri before to do one.

I'm already excited about next year now I have set myself a bench mark!

Let's go...

One final note, thanks to for adding enjoyment to my running sessions and my coach Dr Tom of for my Tri Program and overseeing my whole journey leading up to the Bali Triathlon this year. - thanks brother!

Bali Triathlon 2018 Part 2: Bike

The bike and I have a kind of love/hate relationship going on...

Many of you may not know but I've been nursing a hamstring/hip issue ever since I started cycling which as required treatment every other week by Dr Pain (aka Daniel)

So I was still experimenting with bike positions, flexibility issues, past injuries catching me up, etc going into this race - wasn't completely happy or confident. When I started to feel good, something negative would occur
.. And this repeated itself.

But in saying that I thought I would have done better.

I did better than last year however.

Last year: 41.0
This year: 37.36

This is one I've got to better manage which I think will come with more race experience and solo efforts.

As you can probably see from my IG stories, I'm ON this already. I'm gonna get seriously good at this.

T2: as you may have seen in the video as I jumped off the bike, my right calf began to cramp. This then played on my mind as I was about to go into the 5KM run aiming to do sub20.

I was 20 seconds slower than I had planned on T2 and 20 seconds in this game is a lot. A mixture of putting my bike in the wrong spot, cramp, forgetting race belt.

Overall I was disappointed with this effort but gives me plenty to work on.

Thanks to of and .collis and the bike crew of for training and advice.

Bali Triathlon 2018 - Part 1, OWS Segment.

So, for whats only my 2nd ever Triathlon Race I think I did pretty well.

In 3 seperate posts I'm gonna share my experience.

Starting with the 500m Swim.

Last year I did s**t in the swim leg, so definitely wanted to make an improvement here.

And man I sure did.

Time last year: 16:38
Time this year: 12:05

The swim for me is not my strongest.

First, I needed confidence
Second, I had ALOT of work to do on technique and overall fitness

One thing I learned the most is that effort does not equal speed in this swim game.

My aim was to be as close to the front pack as possible so it gave me something to hunt down.

T1: I was faster by 30 seconds this year plus it was the first time I wore cleats.

Overall really pleased with how this swim went. Just need to continue to refine it... Practice. Practice. Practice.

Thanks to my swim coach and Fridays interval squad.
