The Dubai Downwind Classic at the Dubai Offshore Sailing Club (DOSC) is a celebrated paddling event organised by DOSC Ocean Paddlers that tests both endurance and skill on the open waters off Dubai’s stunning coastline. It forms part of a vibrant racing season that brings together paddlers of all levels — from passionate amateurs to seasoned athletes — in a thrilling downwind format race that takes advantage of the region’s favourable wind and sea conditions.
Participants can choose from varying course distances, with both short and long downwind legs mapped out based on conditions determined at the pre-race briefing. The race challenges competitors’ ability to harness wind and wave, inspiring fierce competition yet camaraderie among the paddling community. Step 2: A lap of Bulgari Island. 12.5k
Step 3: A lap around the Bart Roberts. 13k.
Make the cut by completing these by 31 May 2026.

Jason Northwood conceived this silly idea during COVID. It’s been an annual event ever since. Fred Marshall decided to go one further. He did it in a day.

2026 S2 Men’s Champions are Colin Campbell and Ed Schacht and Women’s Champions are Shannon and Cailin Flynn.
The annual Downwind Classic S2 Race was held on Sunday 15th February 2026. And we had wind. Superb day out with some tight racing across the age groups. Thanks to PaddlersHub for the safety jetski, Dan Kilsby and Richard Nezar for setting the course and monitoring us along the way. Garth Willis for timekeeping and Tracey Flynn for the organisation.

Every year we have an award for the “Clubbie of the Year”. This year Ant Brown is the person who we believe has made an incredible impact to the happy times at the DOSC OceanPaddlers.
