There are no shortcuts to real understanding.

This work cannot be learned from books. It has to be experienced in our own bodies, through movement, observation, repetition and practice.

Our second Teacher Training Seminar was three days of hard work. We moved, questioned, discovered, struggled, learned and had a lot of fun along the way.

It takes curiosity, dedication and a willingness to keep doing the work.

So proud of everyone who showed up, gave their best and put their heart and soul into it.

Joe Pilates was adamant about this.

Every exercise has a beginning and a finish. How you position yourself, how you move, and how you come out of the exercise are all part of the work.

Too often, we focus on the movement itself, forgetting that the preparation and the finish require the same attention.

There is something beautiful about discovering true back extension — not just bending backwards, but feeling the whole back line of the body come alive to support you.

There is something important in this.

The goal was never to perform Pilates perfectly. The goal was to become involved in the work.

Interest makes you curious. Commitment makes you return. And through that process—repetition, attention, effort—the work begins to teach you.

Perhaps this is also a reminder for us as teachers. Not every movement needs to be interrupted and corrected. Sometimes we need to give people enough space to move, to try, to struggle a little and to discover something for themselves.

Joe expected effort. He expected you to pay attention. He expected you to show up and do the work.

Perfection was never the requirement. Participation was.

Strength is not just about stronger arms or stronger legs. When you find your center, everything starts to work together.

The body becomes connected. Movement becomes more powerful. What once felt impossible starts to feel possible.

True strength comes from the middle.

Most people think Pilates is the Reformer and the Mat. But Joseph Pilates created a complete studio system.

Each apparatus was designed with a specific purpose in mind, working together as part of a larger method of corrective exercise. Some pieces help restore strength and mobility in the feet. Others challenge balance, improve lung capacity, or strengthen the neck and upper back.

The brilliance of the system lies not in any one piece of equipment, but in how they work together to address the body as a whole.

When we limit Pilates to just the Reformer or the Mat, we miss much of what makes the method so effective.

If you done only “reformer pilates” maybe you haven’t tried Contrology (Joe Pilates’s “pilates”) ? 🧐
