I stood in front of that door panicking and took that picture not knowing I would keep it for 12 more years! I only felt that it was a special moment, my mind said I should take a picture!
I remember some things about that class that may sound funny right now …It wasn’t funny back then!
1- I got a phone call to come and sub a class there and I had to be ready in a week. I knew I wasn’t ready but I had to say yes.
2- It took me 6 months to prepare my playlist yet I was moving slow .. I had no stretching and I needed 4 more songs for my first class …
3- Surprise one: the gym had no sound system for the studio … they had a sound system connected to the ceiling and you could only control it from the front desk outside. So I had to play it once from the desk and RUN to inside to start my class … no water breaks, no change songs, no restart! .. play and run!
4- Surprise two: my ipod didn’t want to connect to the front desk sound system for 10 mins, so they asked me to play just any music from their own computer… I laughed and said: it doesn’t work this way!
5- Surprise three: I went inside I found out that there was no studio! …I had to push the machines and I would teach the class in the middle of the gym floor …
6- Surprise four: I taught my first class to 4 people … one with a heart condition, a 12 years old kid, a new wife who was worried she might be pregnant, and a lady without shoes ….
❤️ All of that above didn’t stop me from teaching that class … I did it and once the music started, EVERYTHING changed. All that stress I faced in the past 15 mins became silent and the magic of started to control the room … It’s when I realized I wanted to keep doing this…
When I finished and went home they called me asking to be part of their weekly schedule. And I taught in that place for a year .. I got better opportunities and I taught in other places in that year but I kept that class for a good reason: It was the challenging class … where I learned that It’s not gonna always be easy …
