Proper and very comprehensive road tests are a very critical thing that needs to happen with each build. No amount of bench or dyno testing can replace testing it extensively on the car.

We make sure that for every job, we test the transmission every way possible. Short tests, highway tests, in traffic, hot conditions, cold conditions, off road (where applicable), incline test, so on and forth.

When all the internal tolerances are rest and calibrations are relearned, it’s best that you break-in the assy before delivering to the customer, ensuring it’s tuned perfectly.

These rubber seals inside your transmission over long term exposure to high temperatures loose it’s elasticity and in turn do it’s intended function, holding hydraulic pressure. Once it warms up, it runs fine - that is until one of them reaches a complete failure point, snaps, and causes more damage with partial application.

This is why we always advice customer to opt for an overhaul, and not to throw on a used/ scrapyard gearbox, as this same condition is bound to happen sooner or later. Unlike this, with an overhaul, the gearbox is returned the near 0km condition and lasts you a very long time.

Volvo S80 in for oil leak between the engine and transmission. Obvious culprit was the transmission front cover, but just replacing it with a new one from company makes no major difference. Agency has no permanent fix. We install a custom bush additionally to stop the play you see in the video, along with adding custom made retainers to the front wet clutch cover - making sure your wet clutches are the only things drinking up that DCT fluid. End result - it always pays off to get an engineer on the job.
