Caribbean reef sharks—scientifically known as Carcharhinus perezi, are critical apex predators, that act as the doctors of our reefs, keeping reef fish populations healthy and balanced. Without them, our coral reef ecosystems would quickly collapse, and many of our reefs already have!
Despite their vital role, their existence is incredibly fragile. Globally listed as Endangered by the IUCN, they now face an uphill battle. Here in Antigua and Barbuda, their survival is pushed to the brink due to a critical lack of formal environmental protection and unregulated fishing practices. We cannot afford to lose them. It’s time to rewrite the narrative from fear to conservation, and push for the legal protections our local marine life urgently needs. Let’s protect our reefs. Let’s protect our sharks. 🙏🦈🇦🇬

Unbelievable sighting of a blue whale this morning!
