Although the championships were cancelled due to extreme weather conditions, an alternative competition was organized during the same weekend for athletes seeking qualification opportunities. 🏃🏽‍♂️🇸🇽 Team Sint Maarten shines in the Netherlands!

Despite the cancellation of the 2026 Dutch National Championships, our athletes competed in an alternative qualification meet and delivered outstanding performances.

🥇 Carlos Brison Cainez won the U20 800m in 1:51.39 and the 400m in 49.40, showcasing his dominance and versatility.

🔥 Just 14 years old, Nahjah Wyatte Munoz impressed against older U20 athletes, running 1:53.59 in the 800m and 52.79 in the 400m, proving once again that he is among the Caribbean's brightest young middle-distance talents.

The cancellation of the Dutch Championships due to the extreme heat has been very disappointing for our athletes. They spent months preparing and making sacrifices for the opportunity to compete, so having the event called off at the last minute was difficult for them.

While we understand that the decision was made with athlete safety in mind, it was still a tough outcome for everyone involved.

We are encouraging Mr. Brison Cainez and Mr. Wyatte Munoz to stay positive and remain focused on their upcoming goals and opportunities.
