We would like to give a huge THANK YOU to WIB Windward Islands Bank for supporting the complete upgrade of the playground at the Raoul Illidge Sports Complex.
This project went beyond simply adding new equipment. With the support of WIB Windward Islands Bank we were able to give the entire playground area a much-needed refresh and create a safer, brighter and more enjoyable space for children to play.
The upgrades included:
- Two new playground structures
- All existing playground equipment repaired and recoated, matching the colors of the new structures
- The seesaw lowered to a child-friendly height, making it accessible and usable again
- New swings installed
- The perimeter wall repaired, plastered and freshly painted
- General repairs and improvements throughout the playground to give the entire area a fresh new look
With RISC welcoming children, families, athletes and visitors every day, investments like these make a real difference. Playgrounds provide much more than just fun, they help children develop their balance, coordination, strength, confidence and social skills, while encouraging them to be active and outdoors.
The playground is free and open for public use; however, a small fee applies when the area is reserved for private gatherings, birthday parties, or other organized events to help with the upkeep.

🥊 NEW BOXING FACILITY! 🥊
The National Sports Institute, with the support of Argos Antilles and Samenwerkende Fondsen Cariben - Sint Maarten, Sint Eustatius, Saba , is currently developing a boxing facility at the Raoul Illidge Sports Complex (RISC). The project will provide a safe and accessible space for the continued growth of boxing on Sint Maarten and responds to a need identified by the .maartennationalboxingfed, as the sport currently does not have a dedicated facility where athletes can consistently train and develop.
The approximately 75 m² outdoor facility will be fully roofed and equipped with various elements for boxing training. The project has been creatively designed around a low-budget, high-impact approach, making smart use of available space and resources to create a functional and durable training environment without the need for a costly, large-scale building.
The facility will also become a home for boxing within the Sport Unites! program, implemented in collaboration with St. Maarten Sports Federation - SMSF through Sport Unites!, the aim is to reach more youths and provide them with a positive alternative to spending their free time on the streets. Boxing offers an environment where they can stay active while developing discipline, confidence, resilience and a sense of belonging.
By bringing together a dedicated training space, the National Boxing Federation and structured youth programming - the project goes beyond simply building a new sports facility. It creates a home for boxing where young people can train, coaches can develop athletes, and the sport can continue to grow sustainably.
“At Argos, our higher purpose is centered on positively transforming people’s lives and creating long-term value in the communities where we operate. Supporting initiatives such as this boxing facility reflects our commitment to sustainability while creating meaningful opportunities for people to grow and thrive. We are proud to contribute to a space that will help young people develop discipline, confidence, resilience and a sense of belonging, while supporting the sustainable growth of boxing on St. Maarten.” — Keianna Liburd, Argos Antilles

💡 Another major upgrade to the L.B. Scott Sports Auditorium, made possible through the generous support of Port St. Maarten Group 💡
Thanks to this partnership, the old halogen lighting fixtures have been replaced with 24 new Philips/Signify LED sports light fixtures, more than doubling the light output (> 1.000 LUX) and bringing the facility in line with international lighting requirements for indoor sports.
In addition to providing a significantly better experience for athletes, officials, and spectators, the new LED lighting will also reduce electricity consumption, making the facility more energy-efficient and sustainable 🌱♻️
This is another important milestone in the ongoing transformation of the L.B. Scott Sports Auditorium, which has seen a complete facelift over the past year as we continue, step-by-step, investing in improved sports facilities.
A huge THANK YOU to Port St. Maarten Group for helping us create a brighter future for sports!

Congratulations to our Sport Unites! coaches on successfully completing the Youth Empowerment Training and receiving their certificates!
The Sport Unites! program is a collaboration between the National Sports Institute (NSI) and the St. Maarten Sports Federation - SMSF aimed at using sport as a tool to positively impact the lives of our youth. Through structured sports activities, the program helps participants develop confidence, discipline, teamwork, respect, resilience, and other important life skills in a safe and supportive environment.
As part of this initiative, A "Fresh Start" Foundation delivered a Youth Empowerment Training for the participating coaches. Over the course of four interactive sessions, coaches strengthened their knowledge and skills in positive youth development, effective coaching, communication, and creating inclusive environments. They were also observed and supported during their own training sessions, ensuring they could successfully apply what they learned in practice.
By investing in the development of our coaches, we are strengthening the quality of the Sport Unites! program and ensuring that young people across Sint Maarten benefit from positive role models both on and off the field.

NOTICE – NEW LONG JUMP PIT COVERS
Two new weighted long jump pit covers have been placed to help protect our long jump facilities. The covers keep the sand clean, prevent debris from entering, reduce wind loss, and protect the pits from the weather.
The pits contain certified competition sand, specially imported for athletics. As this sand is not readily available locally, we ask everyone to help us protect it.
Please replace the pit covers after every training session.
⚠️ For safety and to prevent damage, the covers should be handled by two people.
Thank you for helping us maintain our athletics facilities.

To improve comfort during the warmer months ahead, we have installed 5 HVLS ceiling fans at the L.B. Scott Sports Auditorium on the long seating area.
While these fans are not a replacement for the expected air conditioning, they will improve airflow and help create a more comfortable experience.
Due to the available budget, it was not possible to cover all seating areas, including the two short sides of the auditorium. We hope to expand this in the future as funding allows.
